Hi ,
Fall is a busy time for all, and it feels extra busy around Monkey College these days. The monkeys have enjoyed some down time to watch the leaves fall when not training, but the staff has been working nonstop! Check out Helping Hands Updates for news on all of our recent work. Also, don't forget to read our Donor Spotlight as we highlight a different kind of help this month. The Charles Evans Foundation has played a big role in our organization, and we are excited to share news of their latest gift. Warm regards, ~ Noelle, the staff and monkeys at Helping Hands ~

| California Celebration Wrap Up- Our California event in October was a big success. It was our first time hosting an event on the West Coast and it allowed us to spend time with some of our current supporters, and form relationships with people who are new to our organization. One of our special guests was Sydney, featured in last month's Volunteer Spotlight. She was able to spread the word about the wonderful stuffed monkeys she is selling in support of our program. Our co-host, Craig Cook, who is a Board Member and recipient, ensured that all who attended had a wonderful evening!
Boston Festivale- Our Festivale event is fast approaching! Don't worry- you haven't missed your opportunity to attend. You can buy your tickets, sponsor, or find out more information here. We are pleased to share with you that we will have some of our local recipients joining us at the event. We are also featuring two showings of our documentary, "And then a Monkey" throughout the evening.
New York City Film Premiere-
We are also in the process of planning another exciting event for you- the New York City Film Premiere of documentary "And then a Monkey". The event on November 16th is going to be at the Park Avenue Screening Room. Join Helping Hands staff, Board Members, and the filmmakers themselves for this exclusive evening. Tickets are limited and almost gone- get yours today!
Kasey to the Rescue-
We are proud to announce that Ellen Rogers, the mother of Ned Sullivan who is one of our recipients, has written a book about her experiences with Ned's recovery and life with Kasey, his monkey helper. Keep an eye out for next month's e-newsletter when we will feature their story. If you can't wait until then, you can always order the book here.

Meet Our Monkeys: Annie
Annie is a very popular girl at The Monkey College. She has returned here to work on refreshing her training after the recipient she was paired with passed away. Annie did not need to perform the more complicated tasks in her past home; instead she helped by fetching out of reach items and provided loving companionship. Now that she is back at Monkey College she is finishing up her studies and is currently in the mid level room of training working on perfecting her potty training. When not doing that, she loves practicing "sun", her favorite task which involves flipping a light switch on or off.
She and her trainer have fun together when not training, too. Every morning when Natalie goes into Annie's room to say hello she is greeted with a huge hug!
It is always unfortunate when a monkey has to come home from a placement, but it thanks to the support of our wonderful donors that allows us to continue with her training. We're so looking forward to the day when she can go to a new home and give someone else her famous monkey hugs to brighten their day! To support a monkey helper training at Monkey College click here.

Training Fund. The purpose of this fund is to provide annual distributions to support the work of the trainers at the Monkey College. As part of the fund, the "The Charles Evans Trainer Award of Excellence" will be given annually to a trainer who has met and exceeded the training standards set forth by Helping Hands.
Linda Munson, President of The Charles Evans Foundation said when establishing the The Charles Evans Training Fund, "Charles Evans would enjoy knowing that his foundation is helping improve the quality of people's lives in such a profound and meaningful way." His legacy is ensuring that the heart of our work, training our monkey helpers, is supported in a enduring way and therefore allowing as many people as possible to enjoy increased independence and joy.
The 2010 Award will be presented Saturday, November 6th at the Helping Hands Festivale event.
