February/2010
Hi ,

Angie and JleeIf you've been hibernating like most of us this winter and are looking for opportunities to get involved, this issue of our eNewsletter couldn't be more fitting.

Check out Ways to Get Involved, featuring many of our volunteer opportunities. It's a great way to meet people, stay connected, and help make a positive difference in peoples' lives.

We're also encouraging anyone involved with their  school community, church,  scout, or camp program to consider booking SCIPP for this spring or next fall. Check out SCIPP'ing Class and pass it on to other parents you think may be interested. It's a great way to educate and engage kids.

We hope you enjoy this issue, and as always, many thanks for supporting Helping Hands!

                         SCIPP'ing Class
One of our lesser known programs is the Spinal Cord Injury Prevention Program (SCIPP). This program emphasizes 30th training image 3preventative measures, safety awareness and heightens children's sensitivity to the challenges of people living with disabilities. During the one hour presentation featuring a live monkey, students learn how Helping Hands monkeys are trained and placed. A $750 donation is requested per program, but there are many ways to help defray this cost. For more information please contact Noelle at (617)-787-4419 ext. 105 or via email at noellel@monkeyhelpers.org.

How did you learn about Helping Hands?
About four years ago I saw a special on the news about Helping Hands. It sounded like such an amazing organization that was sensitive to the issues people face with physical challenges as well as respectful of the monkeys they train as service animals.

Did you have any pet's growing up? Do you have any pets now?
Yes! My family adopted our first dog, Maggie, from the MSPCA in Boston about 15 years ago. Then, about six years ago, they adopted Gwennie, our Springer Spaniel, from another rescue league. And, about three years ago, my husband Tim and I became the proud parents of Homer, our 3 year-old Pug.

What's one thing YOU need help doing?
I have a TERRIBLE sense of direction...I typically need a copilot to help me navigate my way around the city or any new neighborhood.

Why is volunteering important to you?
I really believe it's important to contribute to something that benefits someone other than yourself. It's amazing what it does for the soul. Not only does it renew your faith in humanity to know that people care, but it also provides an opportunity to count your blessings and appreciate what you have in life.
