Summer E-Newsletter
A Final Farewell

A newsletter for and by current and former R2LP AmeriCorps members

Dear Fellow AmeriCorps Members,

We have one final request: Please "LIKE" us on Facebook! The employees at R2LP wish to stay in touch with you well after you have left the program, and this is an easy way to do it! Also, it would be a huge help in spreading the word about the organization to those who don't know us yet. (Pictures of  our end-of-the-year celebration on Friday will be posted there.)
Thanks!

Cheers to the Future!

On June 29th many of us will say a final goodbye to R2LP staff and each other. It is guaranteed to be a sad day for all, but there is reason to celebrate what is next to come.

Fifteen members from the 2011-2012 team will be returning for another year of service with R2LP. Rosa Villarnovo and Andrea Cabrera will return for a fourth year. Mirna Carrillo, Esteban Hurtado, Gregoria Palma, Marybel Peguero, Miguelina Rodriguez and Clara Vargas will come back for a third year with R2LP. Cecilia Benitez, Niles Brown, Paula Enciso, Julia Fontalvo, Shirley Mendoza, Dolores Roberts and Antonia Vargas will stay with Ready to Learn for a second year of service. Also returning for a second year is 2010-2011 team member Rebecca Gallegos.

Other members will move on to work in different fields. Many out-of-state members will be leaving Providence altogether. Office all-star Kristin Richards is starting her graduate studies at NYU this summer, in pursuit of a master's degree in higher education. Elly Henderson, from the health team, will pursue more AmeriCorps positions on the West Coast that deal with public health, utilizing her undergraduate degree in that field. Andrew Geary will shift his focus slightly within the realm of service as he travels back to his home coast to join the NCCC AmeriCorps team.
 Nazly
Of course we can't forget the biggest change of all - longtime AmeriCorps Director Nazly Guzman will be leaving R2LP this summer to move to Burlington, Vt., where her husband, Jeff Priest, will be attending graduate school. (Jeff has been with R2LP since 2007 in the data and research department.)

Nazly has been with the R2LP AmeriCorps program since its inception in 2005, and has served as its director since 2008. She is part of what makes being an AmeriCorps member with R2LP such a great experience and she will be greatly missed!

But all of these changes give us even more reason to celebrate our final days together as a team!

Don't forget our graduation is June 29th - our last day to say a final goodbye as a group and wish one another luck with all future endeavors! Come for friends, fun and food!

GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY SUMMER!!!!

Summer Reading at Providence Public Library!

The Providence Public Library is proud to present this year's summer reading theme - "Dream Big - READ!" For the second year in a row the staff at PPL has taken the summer's theme and run with it in some fantastic directions.

Every Thursday night from June 21 - August 9 is Family Night at PPL! With a different take on the theme each week the library will keep you entertained with various crafts, snacks, songs, and of course an amazing story hour featuring the beloved Miss Bonnie.

As part of the summer program, you are invited to come to a movie every Friday afternoon at 2:00pm. Each kid-friendly film will go with the week's nighttime theme; from camping, to monsters, to dreams, PPL will have it all!
