ERF teachers get training, college credits
|
Thirty Early Reading First (ERF) teachers are now well into HeadsUp! Reading, a course in early
literacy instruction. Assistant teachers in the program are also
enrolled in an Introduction to the
Rhode Island Early Learning Standards(RIELS), while lead
teachers are receiving a Level IIcourse in the standards. Developed by the Rhode Island Department of Education, these courses cover the skills and knowledge children should have prior to kindergarten, and the eight domains of learning involved in the development of these skills.
R2LP
supports early childhood educators by offering professional development courses for college credit at no cost to participants, an option
that most ERF teachers are choosing. Topics covered in class are
translated into teacher practice with support from on-site mentors, an
important component of the ERF program.
The five centers
participating in this three-year program are Children's Friend Child Care
Program and Progreso Latino in Central Falls, Heritage Park YMCA Early
Learning Center and
Pawtucket Day Child Development Center in Pawtucket, and Roger Williams
Day
Care Center in Providence. For more information on our ERF program, please click here.
