| Regional Highlights: Green Infrastructure Project |
The Green Infrastructure Center and the Richmond Regional Planning District Commission are pleased to release a new report Richmond Region's Green Infrastructure Project. The report highlights opportunities for conserving the rich "green infrastructure" of the Richmond region. Green infrastructure includes the connected natural systems and ecological processes that provide critical functions, such as rich soils for farming, habitat for wildlife, drinking water storage and filtration and clean air.
The report includes maps depicting the region's green infrastructure resources and an analysis of how development has led to a more fragmented landscape and reduced the size and significance of forest and wildlife habitat. It also showcases opportunities for regional cooperation and conservation. More info. |

Citizens are working with County staff to present an educational forum and community discussion about rural villages in the fall, details to come. RICHMOND:
Culminating a two year process, on July 27 City Council approved of final changes to the Downtown Master Plan. Thank you to everyone who dedicated their time and energy to crafting and ensuring the adoption of this community vision.
The Master Plan promotes the development of James River banks for public parks and access to residents and visitors of the city, so that everyone may benefit from this natural urban treasure.
Now citizens and local organizations - PSG, Together We Stand, A.C.O.R.N., and Scenic Virginia - are banding together to ensure an accessible, preserved Richmond Riverfront.
Please sign the petition today.
Chesterfield's launch of the Comprehensive Plan update process began with a well-attended citizen workshop on July 14. See Chesterfield residents embrace chance for input. The Board of Supervisors earlier this year approved an $869,920 contract with Florida-based Renaissance Planning Group to shape the plan with the help of the 32-member steering committee and county staff. | Creative Commute of the Month:
Rail-to-Trail in Richmond's Southside |
Richmond Times Dispatch editorialized in favor of the Southside Rail-to-Trail Project for which PSG is coordinating citizen involvement. See Old Rail Line: Happy Trails and other coverage. On July 24, over 75 citizens gathered to learn more about how an abandoned railway could be transformed into a neighborhood trail to increase mobility and recreation options for residents. Councilman Doug Conner, the Rails to Trails Conservancy, National Park Service, and others collaborated to involve the community in an action plan. The response has been positive and enthusiastic. Email Sheila at psg@psgrichmond.org to become involved. The next meeting is October 27, 5-7, Southside Baptist Ministries. More info. |
| Volunteers of the Month |
| PSG is grateful to James Crenshaw, Kemper Marable, Megan Cosner, Emily Tuckwiller, Michael Rogers, and Shana Ryman for logging 30 plus hours going door to door in Richmond's Southside to publicize the Rails-to-Trails Community Interest meeting, described above. Thank you! |
| Quote of the Month |
