News From the Director |
Hi GRITS fans! First of all, let's wish Ashely Harvey the best as she begins student teaching this week. She is an awesome STEM educator who will make an impact with her students by connecting chemistry and biology to everyday things. Be sure to ask Ashely about the chemistry of Froot Loops!
A few weeks ago, Sally Ride, the first American woman in outer space left this Earth for good. She was a fabulous role model for girls with big dreams of changing the world through science. We will miss her passion for encouraging girls of all ages in STEM and showing girls that anything is possible.

The loveable, nerdy neurobiologist on TV's No. 1 hit comedy series is headed back to school this fall. That's when students and teachers at a lucky U.S. school will get the once-in-a-lifetime chance to meet Mayim Bialik and receive science and math instruction from the real-life scientist, Emmy-nominated actress and teacher. Students, parents and educators from around the nation are invited to enter the Texas Instruments "Take Mayim Back to School" contest on the TI Calculators Facebook page (www.Facebook.com/TICalculators) from now through Sept. 30, 2012. The lucky grand-prize winner will not only receive in-person class instruction from Bialik, but will also be awarded with TI-Nspire CX math and science classroom technology and a customized teacher training program for their school. |
