NGCP Collaborative Institute

By: Rachel Rigsby

After attending the NGCP Collaborative Institute in April, all I can say is, 'Wow!'.   What an informational, energizing, and exciting meeting. I expected to learn more about the National Collaborative, hear about the Program Directory, and meet other collaborative members. I came away with much more than that.

The Institute was packed with sessions on networking, assessment, and tools for building a collaborative. Participants brainstormed ideas for forming and strengthening their Champions Boards and Leadership Teams. New collaboratives were able to learn from more experienced groups. There were also critical sessions on diversity in STEM and a keynote panel on diversity and accessibility.

One important assignment for each collaborative was to make a visual, artistic model of their program. Judith and I spent time completing a GRITS map of Tennessee, and we quickly identified areas needing a GRITS presence. We had time to set some goals and look forward to the next few years of the GRITS renewal. We left the Institute with renewed vision, inspiration, and energy for introducing more girls to STEM and look forward to sharing this with our Leadership Team and Champions Board in the coming months.
