Grant Workshops

TCC is committed to the success of our nonprofit partners. With that in mind, we have been pleased to recently offer grant writing workshops for nonprofits, schools, and other organizations looking for some extra  tips.

On August 10th we offered a Grant Writing Bootcamp 101, facilitated by Marcie Delmotte M.P.A., Assistant Clinical Professor, Public Agency Management from Northern Arizona University. Ms. Delmotte offered  information on how to follow a Request for Proposal (RFP); how to conduct a cost/benefit analysis; how prepare a realistic budget; the importance of knowing the funding agency; and critical writing tips.  The workshop was so successful, a follow up is being offered in early September.

2011 DON CARLOS HUMANITARIANSAlice & Ralph Goitia

We are pleased to announce that Alice and Ralph Goitia of Tempe will receive the 2011 Don Carlos Humanitarian Award. The Goitia's were selected for their 47 years of tireless commitment to Tempe. They have volunteered with countless programs and projects, including Tempe Sister Cities, Assistance League of East Valley, Rotary and CARE 7, as well as dedicating their professional lives to the education of Tempe children. They will be honored at the Awards event on Monday, October 10, 2011, hosted in the Arizona Historical Society.

Produced annually by TCC, the Don Carlos Humanitarian Award is considered one of Tempe's most prestigious distinctions and honors those individuals who give back selflessly to our community. Alice and Ralph have dedicated their lives to giving back to others and were personally involved with the development of several of Tempe's core programs, including the Dollars for Scholars program for students graduating from a Tempe Union High School District school. "When it comes to volunteering - to reach out the hand of friendship - to working for humanitarian programs, they are the best of the best!" says Dick and Jane Neuhiesel, 2005 Don Carlos recipients, of the Goitia's. Professionally, Mr. Goitia served as Superintendent for the Tempe Elementary School District from 1975 to 1989 while Mrs. Goitia taught bilingual special education and retired as the director of the bilingual program serving 4,000 students in 16 schools.

Don Carlos is a signature Tempe event that brings together the entire community to celebrate those who have dedicated their lives to giving back and serving people. The award is named for Tempe's pioneer founder Charles Trumbull Hayden and recognizes the father of former longtime U.S. Senator Carl Hayden as the originator of human services in Tempe. Hayden was known as "Don Carlos" among the community's early-day Mexican residents, many of whom he befriended and hired in his flour mill. The Connecticut Yankee who began the Hayden's Ferry (later known as Tempe) settlement in 1871 also helped sustain many Tempe-area pioneers in the difficult early years of their settlement of the West. He spent his life looking for ways to improve the lives of others.
