Local Kids Perform a Great Service for our Seniors

The first Saturday in March was a memorable day for senior residents of Tempe's Shared Living Village and a group of children from Tempe's Bethany Community Church.  It was a special day with one generation of young kids helping an older generation of neighbors.

Kevin Kramar, the Children's Ministry Director at Bethany Community Church, connected with his neighbor and the Director of our financial stability programs, Diane Bennett, to discover this service opportunity for the children in his ministry group of fourth and fifth graders. With donated tools, flowers, soil and a City of Tempe dumpster, 18 children got to work pruning, planting and shoveling.  Empty dry flowerbeds were full of freshly-planted colorful flowers. Existing plants were pruned, dead limbs were trimmed, tree canopies were raised, the fruit tree was cleaned, and sidewalks were swept. Yards were raked and debris was hauled away.  The children said they felt proud to offer the Shared Living residents a pretty, pleasant and relaxing place to spent time outdoors.

Thank you to Mr. Kramer and the generous hands that made such a difference to our senior residents!
