There has been a dramatic increase in calls for very young sibling groups. It is critical to keep these little ones together to prevent shattering their family ties.

It takes special parents to open their hearts to two at a time - Could this be you?

Thank you to all the San Diego families who have
transformed the lives of our babies.

A letter from our Executive Director:

What an exciting way for Angels to end the month - celebrating the placement of Baby 500! As I reflect back on November 1999 when our first baby was welcomed into an Angels home, it is hard to really grasp the magnitude of touching the lives of 500 infants and toddlers. I salute the Angels staff for the commitment each of us has made to every child in an Angels family, and I salute every individual who has ever been an Angels parent and transformed the path of even one Angels child!

Of these children, many were cared for temporarily while their parents were working hard to reunify. Others never left their Angels homes, where they ultimately found forever families.

500 children. That's the equivalent of 49 Girl Scout troops, 25 kindergarten classes or 2 full movie theaters. We send our love and blessings to all 500 of our babies wherever they may be today, and we salute all members of the Angels Team who have made this a day of celebration for us all!

With gratitude...

Diary of a Foster Mom: We Move on...

J bathtime

We moved into our new home last week, closer to my husband's work (he works A LOT), so that time can be spent with family in lieu of commuting; our new house is much smaller so that I can have more time with the kids and less time cleaning. It's closer to the beach and the fresh air I've consumed the last 48 hours in our new home reminds me of a fresh start.

We loved our old house, we really did, but this change was much needed and I really didn't think I would be too sad moving on. After all, it's just a house.

500 Angels in Loving Homes!

Baby 500Baby 500 has arrived at Angels and is soaking up the love and affection he needs with an incredible family.
Angels turns traditional foster care on its head by providing exceptional, loving families for the youngest victims of the system. This 500th baby marks a major milestone for all of us.
After expecting this arrival for weeks, Baby 500 is safely in the arms of his Angels foster family and is getting used to all the sounds, smells and feelings of his new home. He has been welcomed by an extraordinary couple and their two sons. Like many San Diego families, they have plenty of love to offer and see Angels as an opportunity to give back to the community as a family. Read more here.

Hi Dr. Mama,

My almost-4-year-old has had a special blanket (we call it her Lovey) since birth. No matter how dirty or worn it gets, she asks for it whenever she's tired or in need of comfort. My question is, how long is it OK for us to let her keep it? It seems like most children would have given it up by now, but whenever we try to "disappear it" she gets crazy upset so we need to go find it again.

When do we take it away once and for all? Thanks for all the help --

 brain

A Mother's Love Changes a Child's Brain!
Investigators at Washington University in St. Louis found that a caregiver's nurturing is not only good for the development of the child, but it actually alters the neural connections in the brain.
It's not like we didn't know, but it always helps when research provides medical evidence for what we thought all along. Click here to read the article.

Thank You to the Rancho Santa Fe Women's Fund
Blanket donation

Special thanks to the Rancho Santa Fe Women's Fund for the donation of homemade blankets for our babies.  What a wonderful gift, just in time for the babies that will be welcomed into new Angels homes in the coming weeks with our newest training graduates!

Thumbs Up Baby
