Thank you to all the families who have changed the lives of our so many San Diego babies.

A letter from our Assistant Director:

Greetings for 2012!

We couldn't be more excited about the coming year at Angels. All signs point to a record number of babies rescued and lives saved in 2012.

Last month our senior staff traveled to Washington, DC to present the Angels model at the prestigious Zero to Three National Training Institute. The room was full of foster care professionals from all over the country. You could feel the excited buzz as we described how Angels turns traditional foster care on its head by providing exceptional, loving families for infants and toddlers who've endured such a rough start.

Several were enthusiastic about the prospect of establishing Angels networks in their own communities. We'll be busy helping some new sister agencies get off the ground as the year unfolds, and will look to Santa Barbara Angels and Angels OKC for insider tips. After all, every baby everywhere should be offered love and care, Angels-style.

Here at home in San Diego, other changes have unfolded happily in 2011. This past year Angels shifted to treatment level status with our County, bringing us a much-needed boost in funding. Fears that this might lead to decreased referrals and placements turned out to be unfounded when the number of babies joining our exceptional families outpaced last year.

This is exciting stuff, and it calls for a lot of hard work by our excellent staff and a constant stream of resources. We thank all of you who have made such an important difference to so many babies in 2011. Our goal is to make 2012 the year we transform foster care for infants and toddlers all over the nation.

With Gratitude,

Rachel

Dear Dr. Mama,

I've been hearing lots of alarming information about arsenic in children's fruit juice coming from the media and it's really got me concerned. We have 2 boys - 18 months and 3 ½ -- and both of them LOVE juices of all kinds. Their favorite is grape (one of the biggest offenders, I hear), but they happily slurp down any flavor I'll give them.

Since the news reports and the segment on Dr. Oz I've tried to cut back but they seriously beg for their sippy cups constantly. How worried should I be? Is this just another scare tactic like mercury in vaccines? Please give me the straight scoop.

Spotlight on Addie!

Addie
A few weeks ago, Angels found a wonderful home for adorable little Addie* with experienced Angels parents, Terra and Jeff, and their two school-aged daughters. Addie had already been in three different foster homes in a matter of months. Her most recent County foster parents would not keep her because they claimed Addie cried all the time and would wake up several times each night crying and screaming.

Thanks to All Our Elves!

It truly was the most wonderful time of the year! Last month many groups, people and businesses came together to donate goods to Angels to help us restock our New Placement Supply Closet. We received diapers, formula, wipes, clothing and lots of fun toys for our little ones. A big thank you to Perkins Coie, Promises2Kids, San Diego Gamma Knife Center, Aspirations School of Learning, P.E.O. International, Alondra Lopez, Iris Vicente, Linda Pollard, Luz Magdaleno and Melanie Perez.

Did You Know?

Effective January 1, California law requires children to be secured in a car seat or booster seat in the back seat of a vehicle until they are at least eight years old or 4' 9" in height. Parents and foster parents, please take note **Buckle your children in properly before every trip.**

Most collisions occur within a mile of the home, so buckle your child in a safety seat for every ride, no matter how short.

Thumbs Up Baby
Angels is thankful for the donations of our valued friends. Without your generosity we could not provide the stable love and care that promotes healthy childhood development for San Diego children in need.

Thank you to all our generous December donors!
