A letter from our Executive Director:

For the past 12 years, Angels has held a traditional holiday party where all our families and children gather together to celebrate. Our first party was in my living room and included our first (and only) placement and 3 families "in waiting". We have carried on this tradition over the years, and this year we wanted to add a similar summer gathering for our families - a picnic and celebration at a local park.

Thanks to funding provided in part by the Rancho Santa Fe Women's Fund, we were able to have our first annual Angels Summer Celebration! Words can't describe the fun, love and laughter shared by all the children and their families on this special day. To see over 150 Angels children and their families coming together, all sharing the common denominator of having loving parents to keep them safe and happy is truly a remarkable sight. It was a day I didn't want to end!

We established a new tradition at Angels - every summer we will hold a family picnic, a small way to recognize our amazing families and enjoy all the laughter of our children.

Thank you to all our families who attended and to the RSF Women's Fund for helping us host such a wonderful event.

Happy summer to all....

Welcome Premi!

We are honored to welcome our newest Angels Board member, Premi Suresh, MD. Premi comes to Angels with vast experience in the area of child abuse and neglect. As an attending physician at the Chadwick Center for Children and Families at Rady Children's Hospital, she was one of the first pediatricians in the nation to complete a fellowship in Child Abuse Pediatrics. Foster Parent Spotlight- Cynthia and Scott

scott and cynthia

Cynthia and Scott have been foster parents with Angels for almost two years, and are an incredible example of a family who goes the extra mile for the children in their care. They have taken on challenges that are above and beyond what we expect of even our most amazing Angels families.  Cynthia tells their story:

"We first heard about Angels on television two years ago. We began talking about fostering, googled Angels and the next thing you know we are in the training program.

We decided to foster to provide the kind of family that every child deserves. I was raised by my grandparents along with my sister." Click to read more.

Dear Dr. Mama,

Our 5-year-old plays Pee Wee soccer and last weekend he collided hard with another little one when they both went for the ball at the same time. He was knocked out for a few seconds (scary!) and we went to the ER for a CAT scan, which was fine. The doctor said he did sustain a minor concussion and should be careful for the next 4 weeks -- no roughhousing, etc. He's complained of a couple of mild headaches since then that we treated with Tylenol.

Here's my question: We're scheduled to fly to a family reunion half way across the country and I'm worried about air pressure changes on the flight and how they could affect him. It will be 10 days out from the injury, but is it safe? We asked our pediatrician, who seemed wishy-washy about the answer. He didn't say no, but he didn't exactly say it's perfectly fine, either.

Are there risks we should know about?
