A letter from our Executive Director

Hello Friends,

Summer is upon us and it's a wonderful time for families to take vacations, enjoy pool parties and all the fun summer brings here in beautiful San Diego.

But for families challenged by financial strain, drug and alcohol addiction and little to no family support, the summer months can be anything but joyful for the children in their care. Unfortunately, cases of physical abuse are higher during these months and the number of children needing loving foster families rises accordingly.

Beth and Amy, two and three year old sisters who are the youngest in a family of five children, are an example of two little ones sitting in a nearby shelter awaiting a foster home. Sadly, we did not have a family available for these beautiful toddlers.

We salute all our foster families for being open to welcoming babies as they come to us, and we congratulate our summer class of graduates about to open up their homes and hearts to their first placements.  We have plans to launch a large county-wide campaign to recruit more families for more babies in need, so watch for Angels outreach commercials in the coming months. Consider opening up your home and hearts to a child in need.

Happy summer to all our families, friends and supporters!

Warmest regards,

Cathy Richman

Dear Dr. Mama,

A few days ago my 17-month-old did a total face plant as she was running across the tile kitchen floor. She screamed bloody murder and a giant egg-sized bump appeared on her forehead a minute later. I was terrified and called my pediatrician's office immediately to tell them we were on our way.

Was I ever shocked when her nurse suggested I either watch and wait to see if she was really injured, or head straight to the ER if I had serious concerns. Isn't that what they're there for? To take care of children who are sick or hurt? Was the office just too busy to fit us in, or were they blowing us off?

Either way, I'm pretty disappointed. Should I be looking for a new doctor?

Foster Parent Spotlight - Michael and Pam
pam and mike
Pam and Mike joined Angels to care for children in need.  From the beginning they were ready, willing, and very able to provide a little one with a safe, enriching environment. In the beginning, they were not convinced that they would adopt if the opportunity arose...

A Big and tiny Thank You to FOCUS

Thank you to FOCUS, Friends of Children United Society, for their donation to our baby closet. They restocked for our tiniest preemie babies and our older toddlers. This was exactly what we needed to make sure we are ready for any baby or toddler who needs a home.

Did You Know?

Research shows that infants and toddlers placed in foster care after experiencing abuse or neglect actually need more nurturing care than typical children in order to develop secure attachment. (Stovall & Dozier, 1998). This is why the Angels model of care is so important to healing these little ones.

Angels is very grateful for the donations we receive every month. Without the generosity of our friends we wouldn't be able to save innocent babies and toddlers in need. We would like to thank our June donors! Click here to see all our generous donors from June!
