6 Babies

Since Angels was founded we have rescued 456 babies from abuse and neglect.
Thank you to the families who have changed the lives of 29 babies this year.
Our babies need South Bay families, too!
We have a tremendous shortage of loving families in South Bay. If you live in Eastlake, Chula Vista, Bonita or Otay Mesa please open your heart to a child in need.

A letter from our Assistant Director

Hello Friends,

Exciting things are happening at Angels!

We have another large group of excellent parents about to graduate from training, and not a moment too soon. Our families have been chock full of babies, and as soon as an opening appears, it is filled. We hope to someday achieve our goal of no child turned away, but until then we are grateful for every home filled with love.

In order to increase our outreach and visibility in the San Diego community, Angels is about to embark on our very first targeted media campaign. With the help of radio, TV, and print advertising we hope to make Angels a household name and draw many more families with open hearts and nurturing to give.

A HUGE Thank You to the Rancho Santa Fe Women's Fund and the Issa Family Foundation for their generous grants that provided the funds to launch this aggressive outreach campaign.

Meanwhile, we know we must keep working to transform foster care in the face of difficult times. Just this week we received a call about a large, traumatized sibling set, all under the age of five. Each had been in no less than four different homes since January, when they entered care following serious domestic violence.

Our Angels families will help these little ones heal by doing what they do best: providing "repair care" with consistent love, attention and the kind of parenting all children so richly deserve.  If only we'd been called first.

With Hope,

Rachel Zahn
Assistant Director

Dear Dr. Mama,

My partner and I are in a tiff about what might be best for our vivacious 4-year-old son. He is extremely outgoing and we have recently enrolled him in karate. He is having a hard time paying attention and within 4 lessons has been benched (their version of time out) once and verbally warned twice due to disrupting other little dragons in his class.

He never had these issues when we enrolled him in soccer, a much more active sport, swimming lessons, and other outdoor activities. He is an only child and marches usually to his own drum. He plays well alone or with kids his age or above and below his age. He has an insatiable appetite for cause and effect and I believe that karate is not filling this need.

My partner believes that he needs the discipline to prepare for a larger preschool. I do not want him to get a sour taste with coaches because of this class. There are several instructors, but one in particular instructor, tends to come down on him with repetitive lecturing. I tell my partner, he lost him at hello. I believe our son does well at team sports, but is having a hard time at this slower paced sport. Perhaps he is not able to concentrate at this level yet. She says I am over protective and if we pull him out I teach him to quit. I just do not want his self-esteem to be at stake. Who is right?

Foster Parent Spotlight - Paul and Nancy

nancy and paul

"We started fostering after providing childcare in our home for a year.  We loved having a baby around the house so much, we wanted to do it again, without the forever commitment of adoption since we already had three kids of our own.  We found Angels through a friend, and the idea really hit us head on.  We love babies, and foster babies desperately need love.  What a huge difference we could make for a child in need while fulfilling our desire for a baby - a win/win situation to be sure!"

girl scouts

Girl Scout Troop 3630 made a generous donation to our baby closet.

They took all the earnings from selling cookies this year and did a wonderful job creating baby bags for our new placements. Thanks again, Troop 3630!
