6 Babies

Since Angels was founded in 1999 we have rescued 429 babies from abuse and neglect.

Hello Angels friends,

Valentine's Day - the month to share extra expressions of love!

At Angels, we like to think of everyday as Valentine's Day when it comes to providing the love and nurturing all of our babies need and are so deserving of.

We are running a "Got Love" campaign now in our efforts to grow our Angels family and recruit more loving families for more babies in need.  Look for our "Got Love" fliers on the bulletin boards of your local coffee shops and help us spread the word.

Angels parents "break the mold" in terms of the quality of care they provide to all Angels babies. One family visited their little Angels baby while she was in the hospital for 25 days before they ever brought her home. The 3 of them "fell in love" on that first day and this little drug exposed angel is thriving, growing and developing in the family they have created for her.Our storybook of lives touched and changed forever is something we are so very proud of - each chapter so special and amazing.

We wish all of our foster babies, parents and supporters extra love this month and we thank you for making Angels an agency we all are so proud of.

Happy Valentines Day!

Cathy Richman

Ask Dr. Mama

Rachel webDr. Mama is better known as Rachel Zahn, MD, a pediatrician and local mom of three kids, ages 23, 21, and 16. All three were born during her medical training, earning her the title. After three years on the Angels Board she has joined the Staff as our Assistant Director.

Dr. Mama also has her own website MamasOnCall.com. Check it out!

Here is the February Dr. Mama question:

Dear Dr. Mama,

My little girl is 5 1/2 months, and she is happily taking formula like a champ.  At our last well baby visit the pediatrician said I could start offering solids, and recommended rice cereal as a starting point.

When she didn't seem too interested, a friend of mine told me about "baby led solids", which she described as letting the baby decide which solid foods she'd like to explore, starting with what the grown-ups are eating. No baby food required. I've never heard of this before ... is it safe to try?

Old Navy Awareness Parternship

This Valentine's Day weekend Old Navy is partnering with Angels to raise awareness about the success of our Foster Care Model. As we enter a new year we hope the weekend's efforts will result in lots of new foster families and a heightened awareness of the critical need in San Diego County. Be sure to stop by sometime between Friday, Feb 11 and Sunday Feb. 13!

Thank You Las Damas de Fairbanks

 Las Damas

A fantastic health and beauty extravaganza was sponsored by Las Damas de Fairbanks. From fun jewelery and glitter hair extensions to the latest in cancer detection technology there was something for everyone. The generous proceeds from the evening's events will support one of our Angels for an entire year! Thank you Las Damas for supporting Angels.

Foster Parent Spotlight - Ed and Diane

edanddiane

A few years ago, we were getting our finger printing done for our sons adoption and saw a sign on a neighboring door for "Angels Foster Family Network." A few months later, we gave them a call in hopes to look into fostering and possibly expanding our family, and from that point on our lives have been greatly changed with such wonderful experiences. We have learned so much through each situation and challenge, and are so thankful for the path we are going down. Click here to read more.

Cal Western School of Law Earned Their Wings!

calWestern
The hardworking students at Cal Western School of Law held an auction to benefit our Angels babies. Among the auction items were dinners prepared by their favorite professors. We are so grateful that this group of peers not only planned the event but dug deep to raise more than we ever imagined.

Did you Know?

Did you know? A lifetime of healthy relationships begins with the bond between infant and caregiver. Attachment disorder results when this bond is disrupted over and over, or is never allowed to form at all. "If a child is not attached -- does not form a loving bond during the early years -- he does not develop an attachment to the rest of mankind." (Magid & McKelvey).

One famous baby who suffered attachment disruption is Helen Keller. She got help early enough and grew up to be one of greatest humanitarians of all time.

Thumbs Up Baby

Angels is very grateful for the donations we receive every month. Without the generosity of our friends we wouldn't be able to save innocent babies in need. We would like to thank our January donors! Click here to see all our generous donors from January!
