6 Babies

Since Angels was founded in 1999, we have rescued 423 babies from abuse and neglect.

So far this year we have rescued
62 babies.

Hello Angels friends.

Tis The Season - Joy To The World...... and still at Angels we are reminded daily that many children are not blessed with caring, loving families to celebrate the magic of the holidays.  We are the richest nation in the world, and yet, we see babies referred to us that are starving, battered and seriously behind in all areas of their development.  These babies all too often come from parents who also were neglected and unwanted children.

The holidays represent time with family and loved ones!  Airports are overcrowded and we all stand in line to get home to be with our families.  Lines form for a moment on Santa's lap and stories of Christmases past bring us back together year after year.  Angels is proud that we have offered loving families to over 420 babies...and counting!  Fostering (and often adopting) an Angels baby provides the most magical gift of all - a family!

We thank all our incredible Angels families who give the gift of a loving family to every child they care for.  As we approach the New Year, we are looking for many more families to bridge the gap!  We still turn away babies every week - so consider giving your gift of family to a baby in the New Year.

On behalf of all our babies and families, we wish you all a joyful, peaceful and loving holiday season!

Warmest regards,

Cathy Richman

holiday borderMiracle Maker
Every day at Angels we hear heartbreaking stories about babies who begin their lives surrounded by abuse and neglect rather than the care and attention they so desperately need. Our job is to give their stories a happy ending.

Babies like our little Nevaeh are born into a brutal world. At just two months old, Nevaeh was removed from her parents and placed with a wonderful Angels family. Nevaeh was able to heal her wounds and blossom into a happy, healthy infant. She's been adopted by her forever family, and at 5 years old her emotional scars are barely visible.
This holiday season, we encourage you to be a Miracle Maker. With
your support the growing Angels staff can continue to bring real hope to these babies. There are so many more miracles to make.
Nevaeh lives her miracle every day. Please become a Miracle Maker for another child this holiday season.

Ask Dr. Mama

Dr. MamaDr. Mama is better known as Rachel Zahn, MD, a pediatrician and local mom of three kids, ages 23, 21, and 16. All three were born during her medical training, earning her the title. After three years on the Angels Board she has joined the Staff as our Assistant Director.

Here is the December Dr. Mama question:

Dear Dr. Mama,

I've been a foster mom with Angels in the past, but this question is about my biological child (hope that's OK)! He's been walking since 10 months and running since 10 months and 1 day. It seems like he does all things physical earlier than expected.  Now, at 15 months, he's noticeably bow-legged, and walks with a cowboy swagger. I feel like I'm watching a bad western from the 1960s and fear that any day now he'll greet me with "Howdy, pardner"!

His pediatrician (who we love and trust) says this is part of normal toddler development, but my friends are starting to notice and question it. A mom on my block recently told me that her older brother wore leg braces for a similar problem when he was a child.

Are we ignoring something serious? Will it affect his growth in the future? Should I overrule the doctor and take him to a specialist?

I don't think riding the rodeo is such a great career path.

Santa Claus Came to Town!
Holiday 2010US BankHoliday 2010 B

An
gels held its Annual Holiday Party for all Angels children and their families, staff and board members on Dec. 4 at the beautiful Loma Santa Fe Country Club.  With special thanks to board member, Amy Simpson, the lovely dining room at the country club was available again this year for our party.  With a grant from US Bank, Angels hosted our holiday party with festive food and beverages for all the families and children.  As with former years, a special appearance was made by Santa Claus, who brought toys for all the children that were graciously donated by St. Gabriel Catholic Church!  Thank you to US Bank for sponsoring our holiday party; it was a very special day of holiday joy and fun shared among the Angels families, staff and board members.

Foster Parent Spotlight- Matt and Patty

Matt and PattyWe became Angels foster parents four years ago and are currently fostering our 7thplacement.   These seven beautiful babies have ranged in age from birth to 16 months old at the time we picked them up and welcomed them into our home.  The majority of our little ones came into foster care because of drug exposure and neglect, but our two most recent cases have also suffered alleged physical abuse and trauma.  We strive to meet their individual needs by offering constant care, a lot of attention, a warm family environment, and definitely some pampering.  With a background and education in child development, I was ecstatic to go from part time to full time stay-at-home mom two years ago. I try to provide a variety of enriching experiences and encouragement for our young children.

Did you Know?

We're FULL! Our families are not only full of holiday cheer, but full of Angels babies. This week our Angels staff had to turn away a brother and sister, 3 months and 18 months old, whose county foster parents didn't want to care for them any longer. Do you know a family who has love to spare for babies like these?
