Dear Angels Friends,
Angels is thrilled to
announce our latest grantor, the Philip Rivers Foundation! Philip and his
wife Tiffany, parents of 5 young children have a special place in their hearts
for children in foster care, and after learning about the Angels program and
the innocent babies we rescue, their foundation donated $25,000 to Angels (you can read the press release here or by clicking on the Rivers of Hope logo below). These funds will go towards providing outreach for more Angels parents to
foster more Angels babies in need! At Angels we like to say that Philip
Rivers and the Rivers of Hope Foundation have "earned your wings"!
Warmly,
Cathy Richman

Ask Dr. Mama |
Dr. Mama is better known as Rachel Zahn, MD, a pediatrician and local mom of three kids, ages 20, 18, and 14. All three were born during her medical training, earning her the title. Rachel is also a very active Angels Board member.
Here is July's Dr. Mama question:
Dear Dr. Mama, We are fostering a precious Angels baby who will be 1 month
old tomorrow. My husband and I have 3 grown children - our youngest is 23 - and
I'll admit, we're a bit rusty on the care of tiny infants. We were shocked to learn how much things have changed; from
super-absorbent diapers to on-demand feeding, everything's different than it
was when we were raising ours! But my question is about 2 of the changes that
really confuse me, and I'd love to get your opinion about them. 1st is the new rule about putting babies to sleep on their
backs instead of their tummies. This seems so strange to me! In my day we
ALWAYS put our little ones down on their tummies. The idea was that if they
spit up they wouldn't choke on it. It made so much sense! Why the change? Every
time I put our little guy down on his back for a nap or to sleep for the night
I worry. It's really bugging me. Is it really the right thing to do? Next is what his pediatrician told us about solid foods.
This little guy wakes up every few hours like clockwork all night long and
wants a bottle. When mine were this age we started them on rice cereal to fill
up their bellies (especially for that last feeding before bed at night) and
help them sleep through. But the doctor told us to give him only formula until
he's 4 months old, no matter what. What do you think? Why the change? I'd love it if he'd sleep
through the night, and the solid food really helps. Is there anything else I
can do? ~ Out of touch in Oceanside

We Need More Loving Families!
|
In 2010 we have had to turn away over 63 babies! We are so grateful
to the families who were able to bring a baby into their home, but we
need more loving families to help the littlest foster children in San
Diego County. If you know of a family that would be well suited to join
the Angels team, please forward this newsletter to them and encourage
them to find out about our program. We have orientation the first Wednesday of each month and a Fall Training class that we are hoping to fill with 15 qualified families.

Adoption Story- The Fioriti Family
|
Congratulations to Janet Fioriti on the adoption of Joshua and Jayden. Angels is privileged to be part of this forever family. After the adoption of the boys, Janet wrote: "I
just wanted to write a note to say thank you so much for everything. I
had my telling last Thursday, it felt really good to get past that milestone
and to sign placement papers. This has been a long process, I am so
appreciative and humbled by your constant support, encouragement, wisdom and
empathy." Read more here.

Volunteer Orientation
|
We are holding an open event for interested volunteers at our offices on July 22, from 6:30-8 p.m. We would love for anyone who is interested in helping Angels at our annual events or in other ways to come to the meeting to find out about Angels, where we need volunteers and how you can help. If you live in the San Diego
area and are interested in attending please email Lindsey
Hogg at lhogg@angelsfoster.org for more information and the volunteer application. |
Thank You Troop 8725!
| Brownie Troop 8725 stopped by the Angels office to bring donations
the troop of elementary aged girls had solicited. We were so amazed that
they had three full car loads of donations. They brought us diapers,
wipes, bottles, clothes, and blankets to help restock our baby closet.
Thank you Troop 8725 for choosing Angels as your cause, and of course
thank you for all your hard work. |

Did you Know?
|
Out
of 53 current kids in
placement, only
15 (28%) have fathers involved
(meaning visits/contact with the fathers).
72% do not have fathers involved. These little ones need daddies!
Many of our foster families remain in contact with their Angels babies
after they are reunited with their families, and their foster dads can
be the only dads they ever know.

Salon Salon and Heels to Heal
| |
Two new fundraisers are happening this summer to benefit Angels. Marcia Bigsby, a former foster mom through Angels, is holding a Grand Re-Opening of Salon Salon in Rancho Santa Fe and has chosen Angels as the organization to receive donations through the event. It will be held on July 31, from 2-5. Click here to find more information about Salon Salon's Re-Grand Opening Event. Heels2Heal was formed in 2009 to raise awareness and funds to benefit
local charities that are making a difference in the lives of neglected
and underprivileged children in our community. They are holding a
fundraiser and fashion show on August 27 to benefit Angels! Click here to find more information about Heels to
Heal.

| Thank You Corner | |
Angels is very grateful for the donations we receive every month. Without the generosity of our friends we wouldn't be able to save innocent babies in need. We would like to thank our June donors! Click here to view the names. |
St. Germaine's Children's Charity Luncheon
