6 Babies

Since Angels was founded in 1999, we have rescued 392 babies from abuse and neglect.

So far this year we have rescued
33 babies.

Hello Angels friends:

They walk the hallways in the middle of the night with a crying baby suffering from drug withdrawals.  They rock and rock a baby to console him as he endures the pain of broken bones, bruising and internal injuries.  They set many appointments with pediatricians to care for the baby placed with them.  They open up their homes to a host of  social workers and attorneys visiting the child in their care, and they take their foster baby for weekly visits to see their parents, maintaining a position of non-judgment.  These are Angels foster parents.  They receive less than $100/week for the love, care and safe home they provide for every child in their care.  They do this because they know the love and opportunity for bonding they provide is life-changing for each child.  They know for every child they rescue, this is one less child we will all pay for later in the criminal justice system!  We treasure our Angels parents every day, and during the month of May, National Foster Care Month, we salute each and every one of you!

Please join me in honoring our wonderful Angels parents.  Please consider making a donation of any size today in honor of one of our special families by going to www.angelsfoster.org - donate now!

Thank you to this incredible group of individuals who are all a part of our Angels family!

Gratefully,
Cathy Richman

Ask Dr. Mama

Dr. Rachel ZahnDr. Mama is better known as Rachel Zahn, MD, a pediatrician and local mom of three kids, ages 20, 18, and 14. All three were born during her medical training, earning her the title. Rachel is also a very active Angels Board member.

Dr. Mama also has her own website - www.MamasOnCall.com. Check it out!

Please read Dr. Mama's question:

Dear Dr. Mama,

We're a repeat Angels family, and are now caring for our 3rd foster baby, after adopting the 2nd.  We also have an 8-year-old son. Given all this "mom" experience, my question may seem strange, and I'm a bit embarrassed about it.

Our newest baby is the first African-American child we've cared for.  Summer's on the way, and I've always been very careful to make sure my little ones are well protected from the sun.  I usually apply a good sun block before they go outside to play, and re-apply if we're outside for a longer time.

Should I do the same for our new little guy? Does his skin need the same attention? A neighbor told me that African-American skin doesn't burn - is that true?  I want to do the right thing, but I feel silly slathering him with protection he doesn't need.
