6 Babies

Since Angels was founded in 1999, we have rescued 359 babies from abuse and neglect.

We rescued 71 babies in 2009! That is more then any other year! So far in 2010 we have rescued 2 babies.

Here is a letter that Angels received in December along with a generous donation. We wanted to share this with you because it is an example that not only are the foster children's lives changed by living in a loving Angels foster home, but the foster parents and their families are touched deeply by the children they love and care for.

Dear Angels,

My name is Sandy and I am the mother of Jeff. Jeff and his wife Terra, along with their two wonderful daughters, have become an Angels Foster Family this past year. What an amazing job they are doing and what a wonderful organization to be a part of. Their precious little foster baby has touched all our hearts.

When you see the work being done by these special families and the job and concern the social workers have for these precious children, our hearts go out to all of them.

That being said, I have been a part of a wonderful Bible Study group for the past twenty six years. Every year at Christmastime we like to donate to a worthwhile cause and this year we have chosen Angels as our recipient. Because of the involvement of my son and his family, our group has personally seen how they have touched a precious little child's life (only to make it better).

Thank you for all the wonderful work you do,

Bill and Sandy

Ask Dr. Mama

Dr. Rachel ZahnDr. Mama is better known as Rachel Zahn, MD, a pediatrician and local mom of three kids, ages 20, 18, and 14. All three were born during her medical training, earning her the title. Rachel is also a very active Angels Board member.

Dr. Mama also has her own website - www.MamasOnCall.com. Check it out!

Please read Dr. Mama's question:

Dear Dr. Mama,

A new year is beginning and one of my goals is to take concrete steps to improve the health of our kids. We have two of our own, ages 10 and 7, and an adorable Angels guy who is 22 months. All three are doing fine, but I worry we spend too much time in front of the TV and don't pay as much attention to nutrition as we might.

What are the most important things I can do to make changes that will last a lifetime?

Abuse? Let's use the right word

ABUSE???  LET'S USE THE RIGHT WORD:

When we read about harm inflicted on animals by humans, we call it "Animal Cruelty".  Aggressive treatment by a police officer during an arrest, we call "Police Brutality".

But, many babies came into Angels homes in 2009 with savage, cruel, harsh, and unrelentingly severe injuries inflicted upon them by their parents and caregivers, and we call it "Child Abuse".

Webster defines "Abuse" as to use wrongly or inappropriately - to misuse, bad or improper treatment.

Let's consider the impact of those words we use to define the most unspeakable of all heinous acts - the pain and harm inflicted on innocent babies when they are beaten, bruised and left scarred for life.  Child "abuse" doesn't fit - let's call it what it is!

Respectfully,
Cathy P Richman

Foster Parent Spotlight - The Haragan Family

HaraganRandy and Donna Haragan and their children, Brenna, Riley, and Julia, are a newer addition to the Angels family. The Haragans began fostering in September 2009. They have always been interested in helping children, especially foster children. The entire family has had much experience working with needy children in the past, through various volunteer opportunities. So when they started the process of becoming a foster family, they came with experience and an incredible desire to help others...and they dove right in with their first placement!

Angels is very grateful for the donations we receive every month. Without the generousity of our friends we wouldn't be able to save innocent babies in need. We would like to thank our November donors! Click here to view the names.
