  Forward to a Friend

Dearn Angels Friend,

Seven injured, neglected and/or abandoned babies were Babies Rescuedplaced with Angels families in just the last month.  Two were severely battered with life-threatening injuries,  four were either drug exposed inutero, severely neglected, or had parents arrested and unable to care for them.  While these children came to us with broken bones, broken hearts and spirits, their healing began immediately when they were placed with their Angels families.

Baby girl No. 321, picked up by Angels social workers from her daycare, arrived at the Angels office, where her diaper change revealed a seriously neglected and infected diaper rash.  She was never seen by a doctor while in the care of her former foster family.  She spent her days in a daycare center while her foster mom worked full time, and cared for several other foster children.  Children who are removed from their birth parents for neglect and abuse suffer tremendously, but when they are reinjured by the very system that promised them a safe and nurturing home, they become the biggest victims of all.

While we embrace each of these 7 little victims, we are saddened at the other 10 babies we had to turn away in just this past month!  Abused babies desperately need Angels and we need more quality foster families.  Please consider how you might help us to help more babies in need.

Warmly,

Cathy P. Richman

Ask Dr. Mommy

Dr. Rachel ZahnDr. Mommy is better known as Rachel Zahn, MD, a pediatrician and local mom of three kids, ages 20, 18, and 14. All three were born during her medical training, earning her the title. Rachel is also an Angels Board member. She attended the Angels annual luncheon in 2006 and says "I was so impressed with the organization, and so moved by the kids and their stories that I had to offer to help. The more I learn about Angels, the more passionate I become about our goals."

Angels wants to give you the opportunity to send in your questions and have them answered by Dr. Mommy. If you have a question, email Dr. Mommy!

Please read Dr. Mommy's question:

Dear Dr. Mommy,

Our Angels baby came to us about 6 months ago when he was 17 months old. He's now approaching his 2nd birthday and we're starting to think about whether it's the right time to start potty training. We have 2 older daughters, now 17 and 19, and it seems like that's about the time they trained.
The situation is a bit complicated by the fact that he's just started having weekly sleepover visits with his biological mom, who also has a 3-month-old infant. It might be a lot to ask for her to work with us on potty training, but I don't want to sell him short and keep him in diapers too long.

What do you think?

Angels Giving Circle

Snow Angel
By supporting Angels you help make a difference in the lives of the babies we serve. There are a number of ways to support the mission, vision and purpose by volunteering your time, talent and/or treasure!

Volunteer your time!

October 15, 2009 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, La Jolla, Angels will host our 6th annual luncheon. The event will feature a fashion show, staring our very own Angels children, along with a live auction and special tribute to our founder, Cathy Richman. We anticipate more than 400 attendees and will need lots of volunteers to help with registration, live auction, raffle, and the fashion show.

We always have a need for more foster parents. We turn babies away every week because we don't have enough homes. If you feel you can offer a child love and support in your home please contact us today!

Volunteer your talent!

A limited resource for most non-profits, including Angels, is "human resource". We are always looking for people who have a particular talent, maybe in public speaking, networking and or strategic planning to offer their talent pro bono.

Volunteer your treasure!

We count on community support to include individual, foundation and corporate giving to keep our mission and vision alive. We accept financial donations at any level and all contributions go directly to support our program.

For more information about how you can get involved with Angels please contact Alisa Crothers, Development Director, at 619-283-8100 ext. 222 or email at acrothers@angelsfoster.com
