Monica Schrader Dear Angels Friend:

As the new executive director for Angels Foster Family Network, I would like to thank each and every one of you for your support of this agency.
Every day I learn about the amazing work conducted by Angels staff and feel inspired by the incredible generosity of so many wonderful supporters.

Although I have yet to complete my first month of employment, I already feel so rooted in the agency and its mission. I am reminded of the life so many babies would lead, if it weren't for the loving support of Angels staff and their foster families. Cathy Richman developed a truly innovative approach to foster care and I am thrilled beyond words to work with her and the Angels staff. I look forward to meeting all of you in the years to come.

On behalf of "Lola" in my arms in the photo above and the 51 babies placed in Angels homes this year, thank you for all you do for Angels!

Very best regards,

Monica A. Schrader
Executive Director

Dr. Mommy Photo
Dr. Mommy is better known as Rachel Zahn, MD, a pediatrician and local mom of three kids, ages 20, 18, and 14. All three were born during her medical training, earning her the title. Rachel is also one of our newest Angels Board members. She attended our annual luncheon last year and says "I was so impressed with the organization, and so moved by the kids and their stories that I had to offer to help. The more I learn about Angels, the more passionate I become about our goals."  Angels wants to give you the opportunity to send in your questions and have them answered by Dr. Mommy.

Dear Dr. Mommy,

We are fostering an adorable 8 week old little guy who's been with us for about 10 days. In spite of his tough start, he's got a great personality ... calm and smiley with few fussy periods. BUT he seems to have a big problem with constipation. He's on soy formula and is a hearty eater, always happy to take the bottle every 3 to 4 hours, except at night when he sleeps through for about 7 hours. When he first came to us he was pooping every day, but now it has slowed down to every other, sometimes every third. Before he goes he seems to strain and push. Sometimes he cries for about 5 minutes at a time during these efforts to go. I feel so bad for him when this happens! He seems to be hurting. What can we do? Is there a baby laxative we can use? It's so hard to see him suffer.

Adoption Story
 Jayden
We would like to share some exciting adoption news!

Little Jadyn was born ten weeks premature and after several weeks in the NICU, Jadyn was sent home with her birth mother. Due to her birth mother's substance abuse and mental illness, Jadyn was removed from her birth mother's home and was placed in a loving Angels foster home with Janice. Jadyn's birth mom tried to reunify with Jadyn but she struggled with maintaining stability and sobriety.

After 18 months of ups and downs and not knowing what would happen with Jadyn, Janice was designated as the adoptive home for Jadyn. Their adoption was finalized on October 30, 2008. Congratulations to Janice and Jadyn!
Annual Angels Luncheon

The 5th Annual Angels Luncheon was a huge success and we would like to thank all those who graciously donated and chose to make a difference in a baby's life. Angels is able to help neglected and abused babies because of you. Thank you!

HALO Update

HALO (Healthy Attached Little Ones) is still going strong and we are very excited about our progress. This program was started just a few months ago and we already have graduated two parents and five more families will graduate in the next few weeks. The 10-week training sessions given by Angels MFT, Sara Lucchini, is making a difference with these families and allowing them to bond with their child in preparation of reunification.

Angels is still in need of HALO graduation gifts for parents. Items that could be used are Zoo, Legoland, and Wild Animal Park passes.

A special thank you to Sea World for their recent generous donation of 50 passes.
