Babies Rescued

Dear Angels Friend,

On Thursday, October 23rd, we will hold the Angels 5th Annual Luncheon at the Rancho Bernardo Inn to support our great cause.

The work at Angels is never done as we continue to have babies referred to us every week, many born with crack, crystal meth, cocaine and/or heroin in their system, some suffering from "failure to thrive" or tremendous neglect, others with broken bones and wounds inflicted upon them by their parents, but all of them come with broken hearts and spirits.

We are able to increase the number of babies we rescue when we have the financial support to continue to market our cause and recruit new foster families. Further, every week Angels has to turn away babies because we do not have the funds necessary to support the services required.

We need your help. If you are unable to attend our 5th Annual Luncheon, there are other ways you can help. Please donate now, or visit our website for other options. Make a difference in a child's life today.

A special thank you goes out to all of you who continue to support Angels. Nearly 280 babies have been rescued because you care.

Warmly,

Cathy Richman

Dr. Mommy is better known as Rachel Zahn, MD, a pediatrician and local mom of three kids, ages 20, 18, and 14. All three were born during her medical training, earning her the title. Rachel is also one of our newest Angels Board members. She attended our annual luncheon last year and says "I was so impressed with the organization, and so moved by the kids and their stories that I had to offer to help. The more I learn about Angels, the more passionate I become about our goals."  Angels wants to give you the opportunity to send in your questions and have them answered by Dr. Mommy.

Please read Dr. Mommy's question:

Dear Dr. Mommy,

We have an adorable baby girl that will be 1-year-old this month. She is such a well behaved baby and pretty much sleeps through the night. To get her to go to sleep we make sure she has been fed and changed and then give her a pacifier and put her to bed. She usually rolls over and goes right to sleep. She only takes a pacifier when she is ready to go to bed (or nap). She will suck on one if she finds one but does not protest if we take it away unless she is tired.

Our question is, at what age do we take the pacifier away? We have tried putting her down without it and we have also tried to rock her to sleep without it. She cries and is extremely fussy.

We have 3 older boys who we did not take a pacifier. We have found that because our baby is a foster baby and going through so much with weekly visits that we want to allow her to feel secure. Her birth mother does not allow her to have a pacifier and complains that the baby is fussy on her visits because we do.

We would like to add that our baby was pre-mature, is small for her age and when crawling around sticks everything in her mouth to chew on.

Please advise.

A very special thank you to Synteract for donating 14 bikes to our foster families. The super cool big-wheel bikes were a hit with our children, who especially enjoyed the inspirational messages sent by Synteract staff.
