| Who are the Angels Foster Families? |
Dear Angels Friend,
As we graduate 9 new families this week from our summer foster parent training series and we offer 9 more babies safe haven with one of our new families, I am reminded of the 110 families who have proudly worn the title of "Angels Foster Parent" over the past 9 years.
Angels parents are exceptional people who provide loving hearts and homes simply for the joy of cradling an innocent baby without a home. They endure sleepless nights, night after night, particularly when given a drug exposed, premature baby. They take their babies to the hospital to get casts removed (from horrible injuries inflicted upon them). They take them for daily "gauze changes" when they have been severely burned, and they hold them tight and comfort them through the night when their night terrors keep them crying for hours, unable to sleep.
They drive them to visits with their parents, many of whom have inflicted horrible injuries on their children, and they treat the parents with respect and kindness. They rescue "our" children when they have no family members who can. They provide warm beds, safe homes, and an opportunity for each little angel to heal and to learn to trust again - these are Angels Foster Parents.
So, if you meet an Angels foster parent, please tell them Thank You! I don't think we can ever thank our families enough for the true Angels they are to the most vulnerable of all foster children - "our" babies.
Warmly,
|

Ask Dr. Mommy |
Month after month Angels brings you a new article written Dr. Mommy. You read the articles and chances are, you learn something new! Did you know that you can submit your own question and Dr. Mommy will personally answer you? Angels is proud to offer you this service and we encourage you to take advantage of it. What are you waiting for, submit your question today!
The information Dr. Mommy provides is beneficial and Dr. Mommy is better known as Rachel Zahn, MD, a pediatrician and local mom of three kids, ages 20, 18, and 14. All three were born during her medical training, earning her the title. She attended the annual Angels luncheon last year and says "I was so impressed with the organization, and so moved by the kids and their stories that I had to offer to help. The more I learn about Angels, the more passionate I become about our goals."

| HALO Update |
Angels is excited to bring you a positive update on the HALO Program. For those of you who are not familiar with HALO, it is a new program that Angels has started and HALO stands for "Healthy Attached Little Ones". This program paves the way for a smooth transition for a child when they go from foster care back to the family home. Angels has been working collaboratively with the County of San Diego with this program.
Angels MFT, Sara Lucchini, is currently working with 7 families and the training is going fantastic. Sara is very encouraged by these families and is looking forward to smooth reunifications. Sara also has 8 other referrals for new families to start the training right away.
After a family has completed the HALO Program and they are reunited with their child, Angels would like to give the families either Zoo, Legoland, Disneyland or SeaWorld passes so the child and family can do something fun together. If you would like to donate passes please contact us today!

| Breanna and Bryan's Success Story |
When Breanna turned 16 months old her life completely changed. She was tragically removed from her home due to general neglect and her birth mother's substance use. Breanna also had 2 older brothers who were placed together in a county foster home and her newborn baby brother, Bryan, was already discharged to another county foster home. Breanna was not only removed from her home, but she was separated from her 3 siblings as there was no county foster home to take all of them.
It was then that Angels was called to see if they had a stable and loving home for Breanna. Her life was changed by that one phone call. Matt and Patti immediately opened their hearts and home to little Breanna.
After 12 months, Breanna's mother was unable to do what was necessary to reunify and regain custody of her children. It was clear that the birth mother loved her children but just could not give them what they needed. Breanna's 2 older brothers were placed together in an adoptive home. When adoption became likely, Matt and Patti decided to open their hearts once more and accept Breanna's younger brother, Bryan, into their home for adoptive placement. Breanna (3 years old) and Bryan (2 years old) were officially adopted on August 28, 2008.
After a long journey and many challenges, Breanna and Bryan have the happy ending they deserve. Matt and Patti have given so much to ensure that Breanna and Bryan have a life full of fun, happiness, and love. All of us at Angels are so happy for this amazing family! Angels also appreciates that Matt and Patti want to continue giving back by fostering more babies with Angels!
Thank you to Matt and Patti for your commitment to these children and congratulations to you!
