Record-Breaking Placements
Foster Study Picture
Child abuse knows no season!  Children are abused, abandoned and neglected every day, week, and month of every year.

Historically, the summer months are rather quiet at Angels as families are vacationing and enjoying the warm summer months and not thinking about taking on the responsibilities of fostering a child.  The Summer of 2008 is the exception as the Angels staff have busy certifying many new families and placing many babies in need.

During the first week of June, 10 babies found their way to Angels homes - a record-breaking week for us!  We are so grateful to all our Angels families who are making their homes and hearts available to the children who need families every day of every year!

Warmly,

Babies Saved PhotoSince Angels was founded in 1999, we have rescued 264 babies from abuse and neglect.

This year we have placed 38 babies! Our goal for 2008 is to rescue at least 60 babies.

Dr. Mommy Photo
Dr. Mommy is better known as Rachel Zahn, MD, a pediatrician and local mom of three kids, ages 20, 18, and 14. All three were born during her medical training, earning her the title. Rachel is also one of our newest Angels Board members. She attended our annual luncheon last year and says "I was so impressed with the organization, and so moved by the kids and their stories that I had to offer to help. The more I learn about Angels, the more passionate I become about our goals."

Angels wants to give you the opportunity to send in your questions and have them answered by Dr. Mommy.

Dear Dr. Mommy,

I've been hearing a lot about what to do to treat cold symptoms in small children. We have two kids, ages 3 months and 22 months, and it seems like someone's nose is ALWAYS running. Recently, my neighbor told me that I shouldn't be using over-the-counter cold medicines because they're not safe. Is this true? Should I be taking them to the doctor for antibiotics? What's the best thing to do?

HALO Program - Healthy Attached Little Ones

Rosie
Last month, Angels introduced the new HALO Program (Healthy Attached Little Ones) and shared with you how this program is paving the way for a smooth transition for a child when they go from foster care back to the family home. Angels has been working collaboratively with the County of San Diego in introducing the HALO Program and the response has been extremely positive.

Angels Social Worker and Marriage Family Therapist, Sara Lucchini, is starting to meet with families this week and will be able to start the one-on-one parenting sessions very soon.

Angels would like to thank the First 5 Commission for their support in HALO and appreciate the grant money that will allow Angels to help children and their families.

A Heartfelt Thank You from Angels

While not everyone can be a foster parent, many people find very special and meaningful ways to give to Angels.  In the past two weeks, we were contacted by two families who had many baby gifts to deliver to the Angels office. These were not just your ordinary donations of clothing and gifts.

Two little girls (who have never met) had celebrated their 5th and 6th birthdays, and instead of requesting gifts for themselves, they asked that their friends and relatives bring a gift for an Angels baby.  Our supply of baby clothing, blankets and toys was greatly enhanced because these two little girls know the gift of giving!   We send a special thank you to the Strapac and Keating girls for sharing the celebration of their birthdays in such a special and loving way!

We thank all our foster parents and supporters of our program as we are reminded every day that we could not do our good work without the support of our Angels family!
