Weekly Feature Wines

Every two weeks we have new feature wines that we have found to be excellent value. The following will be on feature and OPEN FOR TASTING for two weeks beginning September 10.

Riecine RoseRiecine 2007 Rose, Tuscany, Italy $17.00 ($1.00 off!)
Well, it may be September already, but the weekend is calling for temperatures close to 30 degrees Celsius, so it's going to be HOT! That means crisp, refreshing pink wine! The Riecine Rose is made from 100% Sangiovese with the saignee method. Simple, fruity, fresh and crisp, this is the ultimate in diverse, food-friendly wine. I've had it with sauteed shrimp with Thai sweet chili sauce, and it really punches up the fruit!

Megalomaniac
Megalomaniac 2007 Pinot Noir "Pink Slip" Rose, Niagara, Ontario $18.00 ($7.00 off!)
The Megalomaniac wines are conceived by John Howard, former owner of the acclaimed Vineland Estates winery in Niagara. This is his own project, and his standards of excellence are no lower than when at Vineland. Another Rose for the upcoming weekend, this one has slightly more serious character with a subtle, vegetal 'pinot' complexity that veers away from the tutti fruity aromas that some Rose can have. On the palate it is mouthwateringly crisp and tart, like cranberry rhubarb without the pie, giving it great length and even more structural bones for food pairing possibilities. For the upcoming weekend, I'd take it camping, and pair with cedar-plank salmon or ribs.

La Cabotte 2005 Cotes du Rhone, France $18.00 ($5.00 off!)Cabotte
The wines of the Rhone valley in southern France are met with enthusiasm by wine lovers the world over. If you are new to French wines, the Rhone is always the best place to start as they give the most easily accessible reds the country has to offer. Cotes du Rhone is usually a blend of Grenache & Syrah, and in this case, a little Cinsault. The Cabotte delivers with wild herb aromas, juicy red fruit and a medium body. Enjoy this bargain with soft cheese and proscuitto on baguette.

Cousino Macul 2007 Merlot Antiguas Reserva, Maipo Valley, Chile $17.50
Sometimes the only thing that will do is a soft, supple, ripe and round Merlot. C'mon, you know you love 'em. Cousino Macul is a legendary Chilean producer, dating back to 1856 when Matias Cousino bought the land in Macul, and remains to this day a family owned operation. The quality of the current bottling surprised me, with impressive structure to support the full fruit. I'd grill up some lamb chops and wash 'em down with Matias' Macul!

Don't Forget...
