May 2012 Stated Meeting Highlights Now Available

That was the time when the May 2012 Presbytery Meeting officially adjourned, 10:36PM, May 8 at First Presbyterian in Rochester.
The Presbytery of the Twin Cities Area had several issues to tackle at this meeting, including the election of new officers, the commissioning of elder commissioners to the 220th General Assembly this summer in Pittsburgh and approving the proposed Gracious Separation Policy. All of the issues up for consideration were completed on May 8 with the exception of the Gracious Separation Policy which was postponed until a special presbytery meeting on June 12.

Mission Co-Workers from Congo to Visit PTCA
The Mission and Witness Committee of the Presbytery of the Twin Cities Area is proud to sponsor the visit of Presbyterian Church (USA) Mission Co-workers John and Glenda Fletcher to the PTCA May 19-24.
The Fletchers are mission co-workers in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
John is a surgical consultant to the eight hospitals supported by the Presbyterian Community of Congo (CPC). He works with the hospitals' staffs to improve their surgical knowledge, skills, judgment and techniques.

Call to Special Presbytery Meeting
The next Meeting of the Presbytery of the Twin Cities Area will be a special meeting on June 12, 2012 at Oak Grove Presbyterian Church in Bloomington, MN starting at 6:30PM. The main purpose of the meeting is the resumption of the process to discuss, amend and vote on the proposed Gracious Separation Policy

Around the Presbytery
Pentecost Offering: According to the website of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), gifts to the Pentecost Offering "enable the PC(USA) to encourage, develop and support its young people, as well as provide assistance to at-risk children. In addition, a large portion of this offering can be kept by individual congregations for use in their own communities." The split is 60 percent for PC(USA) and 40 percent stays with the local congregation "to use for ministries with children at risk in their own communities." House of Hope Helps Job Hunters: The House of Hope Presbyterian Church in St. Paul participates in The Big Net, a consortium of St. Paul congregations offering support to job seekers. Meet on Thursdays at the Church of St. John the Evangelist, 60 Kent Street in St. Paul, at 5 p.m. for a soup supper, followed by the 5:30 meeting. No registration required.
Hymn Sing: Central Presbyterian in downtown St. Paul will have a hymn festival at the May 20 worship which will include song from Glory to God, the new Presbyterian Hymnal set to debut in 2013.
Sexy Synods? Stephanie Anthony Broadman, pastor of First Presbyterian in Hudson, WI wrote a blog post on the role of synods in the life of the Presbyterian Church (USA) entitled "Synods Aren't Sexy." Anthony Broadman was installed earlier this month as the Vice-Moderator for the Synod of Lakes and Prairies.
Presbytery Seeker Seminar Set for June: The Committee on Preparation for Ministry (CPM) will host a one day "seeker" seminar for individuals exploring a sense of call to Teaching Elder in the Presbyterian Church (USA) on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Valley Community Presbyterian Church in Golden Valley, MN.
This seminar provides a structured way of meeting with and orienting seekers to the opportunities, challenges and responsibilities that lie ahead should they pursue a formal relationship with the CPM... Read more...
Synod School 2012: Synod School 2012, the annual midsummer ministry of the Synod of Lakes and Prairies, takes place Sunday through Friday, July 22-27, at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa. Synod School offers fun and mind-stretching courses, worship and singing that will be long remembered, and time for both fellowship and private reflection. Carol Howard Merritt, author of "Tribal Church: Ministering to the Missing Generation," and "Reframing Hope: Vital Ministry in a New Generation," is this year's adult convocation speaker.
