May 2012 Stated Meeting Highlights

It was a late night on Tuesday, May 8 as the Presbytery gathered together for the May Stated Meeting at First Presbyterian in Rochester.  The meeting adjourned at 10:30PM after handling several major business items.  Among the agenda items covered were the proposed Gracious Separation Policy, the election of new officers including William Davnie as the new Stated Clerk, and a fond farewell from outgoing Stated Clerk Nancy Grittman.  The Gracious Separation Policy was not decided on at this meeting, but will be considered at a Special Presbytery Meeting in the near future.

Look for a more detailed review of the meeting in next week's EMerge.

John is a surgical consultant to the eight hospitals supported by the Presbyterian Community of Congo (CPC). He works with the hospitals' staffs to improve their surgical knowledge, skills, judgment and techniques.

The Fletchers are coming to a church near you to share their journeys in Congo.  Click here to find out the dates and times.

Presbytery Council Starts Youth Initiative

The Presbytery Council is looking for ways that our Presbytery might support and encourage our churches in their ministry to and with youth. Do you have a youth group? Who are the people in your church who have an active role in leading youth activities? Please send the names and email addresses of your youth-minded members to T.J. Parlette, First Presbyterian Church, Rochester, parlette.tj@fpcrochester.org, and we'll see what the Holy Spirit can stir up.

The July Stated Meeting of the Presbytery of the Twin Cities Area has been moved from July 10 to July 17, 2012 from 4-8PM.  The location of the Presbytery meeting stays the same: First Presbyterian Church in Hudson, WI.

The move was made because the original date  occurs only a few days from the end of the 220th General Assembly in Pittsburgh.  With a number of persons involved with the Presbytery Meeting also taking part in General Assembly, it was decided to move the date of the July meeting a week ahead.

Please make note of this in your calendars.

Brother John @ Westminster: Brother John of the Taizé Community in France will take part in the annual Thin Places Ecumenical Taizé service on May 10th at Westminster Presbyterian in Minneapolis at 7PM. Brother John will offer a short meditation on scripture, and there will be the Sung Prayers and time of contemplation that are characteristic of the daily Prayers at Taizé.  And-just as they are in Taizé-the children and young adults who come will be invited to sit with Brother John on the floor, before the green growing things and the lighted candles and the authentic Taizé Cross, in the darkened Great Hall.
