Amy Blumenshine, a nationally recognized speaker and writer on the concerns of returning military personnel and their families, will be the keynote speaker for a morning workshop at Community Presbyterian Church in Rochester on February 25, 2012 from 9:30-Noon. Although daily news stories report on the injuries and trauma experienced by veterans, most Americans are feeling little personal impact of our present wars. Many veterans and their families are paying a high price physically, spiritually, and mentally. For them, war is a "disability machine." Where is the church in this picture? Do we have a role? Are there ways we can reach out? Can we be a force for justice and healing? The workshop is sponsored by the PTCA Disability Concerns Ministry. A $5 donation is suggested. To register, send an email to: disabilityconcerns@ptcaweb.org. A flyer is available for distribution by clicking on the link below.

Our presbytery requires all teaching elders and commissioned lay pastors to participate in Level 1 Healthy Boundaries training approved by the PTCA's Advocates for Integrity in Ministry (AIM) within one year of beginning one's ministry in this presbytery. This year the PTCA will offer Level 1 Boundaries training on Thursday, April 12 and Saturday, October 27. You may register on-line through the PTCA web site. Check-in will begin at 8:30 am. Instruction will begin promptly at 9 am and conclude at 2 pm. The training site this year is North Presbyterian Church in North St. Paul. (Please note: This is not North Como Presbyterian Church in Roseville.) The curriculum includes learning to understand, establish, and maintain appropriate boundaries in ministry, and includes a special emphasis on appropriate use of social media. The cost is $50, which includes a continental breakfast, lunch, and a packet of materials that includes a list of recommended resources for further study. (Please make checks to "Presbytery of the Twin Cities Area" and write "AIM Level 1 training" on the memo line.) For the health of our ministries, and to satisfy the requirements of our presbytery's insurance policy, it is vital that teaching elders make the time to complete this training.
