Greetings!

This is Craig Sutton of FishingNosara with the February Report.

While it took a while for the blue water to arrive, this year has been steadily getting better every week.

Most of our trips are raising several Sailfish and Marlins each day.

A big congrats goes out to Captain David on the Explorer for catching his first Marlin on the Super Panga with client George Shipley. Later that day the Explorer had two nice Sailfish releases.

Captain David is showing everyone that a big Panga boat is a formidable water weapon!

Captain Eduardo scored some nice Sailfish and bottom fish on his boats the Nice n' Tight and Sportsman. Eduardo is an amazing captain and he could probably catch fish in your bathtub.

Master Captain Vibert on the Cabo had some outstanding trips; not only did he track down the elusive Blue Marlin with client Dick Stacey but also has been catching some nice bottom dwellers.

Captain William on the Wanderer had the most Marlin releases and continues to be the area's top big boat. Captain William not only keeps the Wanderer finely-tuned and ready for action, I sometimes think he can smell the fish.

The Wanderer is on pace to top last year's Billfish total by a large margin.

The water has not been as blue as I would like to see, but the Marlin have arrived in full force and with any luck should continue to be in our waters looking for a fight. The bottom fishing has been spotty on the inshore reefs but it should get better throughout February and improve into March.

The Sailfish should peak in March or April, but remember that last year May, June, July, and August were some of the best months ever on all types of species. The calendar is filling up fast so move quickly to ensure your dates and boats are availible.

Captain David and the Super Panga Explorer are fast becoming one of the most productive boats in Garza. It's hard to believe that we launched this boat just two months ago.

For the construction history and video of the maiden voyage of the Explorer, check out the Explorer Story.

The Explorer really came into her own this month with her first Marlin release and several great Sailfish catches.

St. Augustine anglers Roy and Cathy Cox followed up their strong performance on the Wanderer with a great day of action on the Explorer. On January 18 they caught a pair of Yellowfin tunas over 20lbs, two big Amberjacks and seven Black tunas. The Cox family had great success on multiple trips with FishingNosara. Great job!

Javier and our great friend Brooke Shields took an evening cruise on the

Explorer on January 21. While it was "slow" all day for the other boats, Captain David strolled in and boated a dozen fish in 1.5 hours. Not so slow after all!

Javier claims that he will catch his first Marlin on the Explorer, but for now these little fellas will have to do.

The solid action kept up for client Scott Walcott who fished two days on the

Explorer in late January. On the first morning Scott caught three Yellowfin tunas, a White tuna and he hooked up about 10 Roosterfish, but no releases.

Then on Sunday Mr. Walcott caught a pair of 15lbs. Blue Jacks and a beautiful 45lbs. Cuberra Snapper. Great catches with a little bit of everything.

On January 28 our buddy Sheffey caught this monster on the Explorer...

Seriously though, his group got on some nice fish and had a great trip. We let this little fella go, so come on down in about 20 years and this thing will be some nice eatin'!

Speaking of good eatin', on January 28 Jason came home with this nice-sized Amberjack on a half-day fishing with Captain David Barrantes on the Explorer.

Our great friend Patrick Armbruster is no stranger to big-time reef fish as evidenced by this massive haul on a day trip January 31 on the Explorer.

His party finished Captain David's excellent month of January by catching several White Tuna, Yellowfin Tuna, Walleye Tuna, and this terrifying Cuberra Snapper.

The Explorer is game to battle all kinds of great tasting and hard-fightin' reef fish. Just ask client Tim who had a big time on the Explorer on February 2 with Captain David. He caught two Yellowfin tunas, two White tunas and a good-sized macarella.

Also, on February 3 client Hoover caught on the four nice jacks and saw lots of turtles on just a 2.5 hr morning trip.

Dennis was on the Explorer for a morning trip on February 8th and caught three White Tunas, a bunch of Black Tunas, a nice Amberjack and lost two giant mysteries on the bottom.

Most recently client Rory Lavechia caught Black tunas and Jacks on a morning trip. The Explorer is absolutely rocking the inshore reefs, but the highlight of the month came on February 13th.

Client George Shipley had a banner day on the 26-foot Super Panga with the boat's first ever Triple Billfish day. Captain David pointed the Explorer just a little more offshore than usual, and in no time at all this 200lbs.+ Striped Marlin came tearing through the spread.

A quick fight and a photograph later, then it was time to get the lines back out and go for number two. Before long they had nabbed this 100lbs. Sailfish to complete the day, plus one more Sailfish release to fatten up the Explorer's Billfish scorecard.

These are outstanding results for just a 5 hr. trip, and Captain David has shown that the Explorer can deliver great fishing action usually thought possible only on boats twice her size. Look out for more great catches from the baddest Panga boat in Garza (or just about anywhere else)...Explorer!

Captain Eduardo is having a ball on the water so far this season. Between the legendary Nice n' Tight and the 31' Sportsman, Eduardo has all the tools and tricks to bring in the big fish.

On January 27 Captain Eduardo on the Nice n' Tight had a great day with client Simon and his group. They started off with three nice Black tunas and ended the trip with a 20lbs. Cuberra Snapper.

On Febraury 8 on the Nice n' Tight client Steven brought home the bacon in the form of six White Tunas and two tasty Yellowfin.

Captain Eduardo is coming on strong this season and once again is primed to be the leader of the pack. On February 12 client Lillian on the Nice n' Tight caught two Yellowfin tunas, a small grouper, a nice-sized White tuna and a trio of Jacks.

These are the kind of species-diverse trips that have made the Nice n' Tight a legendary boat in Garza.

Captain Vibert along with First Mate Vibert Jr. are the most experienced crew on the FishingNosara team. Recently they have begun training the Garza Bay Transport staff in the fine art of Costa Rican Sportfishing, and we are very excited to see young mate Marcos get some action in the cockpit of the Cabo

Our great friend Dick Stacey and company caught several nice tunas, a Porgy fish, some Sailfish and a Marlin; Dick and his friends are seasoned anglers and they were very satisfied with their trips on the Cabo.

Last month we promised photos of Captain Vibert and Dick Stacey's Blue Marlin, and here they are! What a great catch by Mr. Stacey and as always some amazing boat-handling and angling by Captain Vibert and Mate Marcos.

The Master Captain finished January strong with client Chris and his group on the Cabo. In no time at all they caught a small cuberra snapper, a 6lbs. macarella, and five tasty Black tunas. Great work as always from the Cabo.

On the afternoon of February 8 client Kurt on the Cabo caught twelve Black Tunas and three macarellas with Master Captain Vibert. The Cabo is on a tear right now and Vibert shows no sign of letting up.

On the evening of February 14 client Brian Jones was with Captain Vibert on the Cabo and caught ten Black tunas on a 2.5 hour Sunset fishing trip. Captain Vibert and the Cabo have hit their stride already this season and we expect even more great trips from the Master Captain in the future.

Captain William is celebrating his second year at the helm of FishingNosara's flagship the Wanderer, and once again the big blue beauty is catching big fish and making big smiles for our clients.

To start off the month client Ed Haynes released a 450lbs. Marlin on the Wanderer on Janaury 17. Great work by angler and crew...Check out Captain William himself on the billshot.

Later while bobbing around Garza Bay, First Mate Alex hooked up this massive 80lbs. Rooster Fish. Of course we released this fish immediately but it is still a heck of a catch for so close to shore. Nice fish Alex!

The Cox family have been tearing the water up this month, but they truly saved the best for last. After some great action on the Wanderer followed by more fish on the

Explorer, the First Coast couple were back on the blue beauty for some big-time Marlin Hunting.

Fishin' Accomplished! Great work by the Roy and Cathy Cox and the entire FishingNosara team.

Patrick Armbruster and his group booked the Wanderer for a sunset fishing trip and caught this awesome Cuberra, an Amberjack, a 10lbs. White tuna and macarela. Great action for such a quick trip.

After some routine repairs on February 5, the Wanderer welcomed longtime Canadian charter Captain Rick Stanley and his bunch for an offshore billfish hunt and they had some incredible action.

They were raising marlins all day and got the hooks buried into two of the big blue ladies, but both managed to spit the hook and escape. However, the day was saved by a late-day 90lbs. Sailfish release.

The next day client Creighton Taylor had some great action on the Wanderer today catching three White tunas and three black tunas. Later in the afternoon they went a little deeper for some Marlin action, and though they raised up a nice sized Stripey, they couldn't quite get this one hooked up.

We knew it was only a matter of time until the lady in the blue dress came calling! On February 9 Client Dennis Paul booked the Wanderer for an offshore billfish hunt.

Fishing in Costa Rica

With the rain swirling in the distance, this big girl came tearing through the spread right at 2:30pm. The fight was on as this Marlin bobbed and weaved all over the place.

After 45 minutes of combat, the Marlin was defeated and Dennis Paul had added one more safe marlin release to the Wanderer's scorecard.

The bite is starting to catch fire and we are spending this weekend prowling for pelagics. Look out for some great action in March from the Wanderer!

Most recently on February 14 client Joseph Accarino and his party nailed fifteen Black tunas and several jacks in just 3.5 hours.

When the morning is this hot, you know the afternoon billfish feed is going to be crazy, and sure enough client Stephen brought in a fantastic Sailfish in the afternoon.
