Greetings!

Craig Sutton here from FishingNosara.com
with the July report.
While the fishing in June was hot, July has been even better. The overall number of trips are down but the number of catches are way up.

Captain Eduardo is back in the top spot this month; his performance on the legendary Nice n' Tight and the big girl Sportsman speaks volumes about his skill. Great job Eduardo!

The famous Cabo with Captain Vibert and Vibert Jr. followed closely with some super catches, highlighted by the big Cuberra with the kids from EPIC Surf Club. Nice fish for the Master Captain.

Captain William and crew of the Wanderer showed their world class ability with the big 150lbs. Yellowfin by our old friend Buddy Cherry from Middleburg, Florida. PLEASE NOTE: this massive Yellowfin was caught a a 20# Diawa spinner with 80# braid.

This was truly the fish of a lifetime for Mr. Cherry and was has earned him a spot in the inaugural class of the FishingNosara Hall of Fame.

I forgot to mention that last month I got the chance to fish with my good friend and Lifetime Achievement Hall of Famer Richmond Phipps and her daughter Brooke Shields. She was there for the awesome Rooster fish (pictured above) that we caught with a live bonita. Richmond is a legendary angler and in her life has had immeasurable impact in the lives and well-beings of our Captains, crew and staff. We love you Richmond!

Visit the website FishingNosara.com to see all the Hall of Fame catches.

I will be back in Costa around the first to fish before Sam August and crew arrive to film a few episodes of Inside Sport Fishing. They have some alternative fishing methods they want to try; Stay tuned, it could get interesting.

It looks like the fishing will continue to improve until late this year. Don't Delay, book today as available days are getting limited.

Captain Eduardo is the all-star of the FishingNosara Team this month. On either the 31' Sportsman or the nimble Nice n' Tight, when Captain Eduardo is at the helm the fish better be nervous. This month he regained his top spot with the most trips and the most catches. Captain Eduardo entertained all different size and age groups this month and everyone left the boat smiling and with a bag full of fillets.

The great month kicked off on June 15th which was a special day for Captain Eduardo; his birthday! He went out with his family on the Nice n' Tight and caught eight Yellowfin tunas over 15lbs. and caught a nice size Cuberra snapper.

On June 21 client Scott fished on the Nice n' Tight and ma
de quick work of three nice Yellowfin tunas. He capped off his day with a hard-fightin' 25lbs. Wahoo. Two days later client Jorge was aboard and caught four meaty Yellowfin Tuna and a little Yellowtail snapper on a quick 3 hour trip.

Since the last week of June it has been a Yellowfin rodeo for Captain Eduardo. First, June 24th saw the Sportsman take to the reefs with client Henri
que; He had a action packed day catching six 20lbs. Yellowfin tunas. Then clients Mike and Terry booked the Nice n' Tight and caught three of the 'Yella fellas' on June 26th. The next day client David reeled in a football-sized Yellowfin and a 15lbs. horse-eyed jack. The Yellowfin Rodeo concluded with clients Terry and Chris boated nine Yellowfins, the largest weighing in around 22lbs. Great day to end a great week!

On July 3rd client Bucky booked the Nice n' Tight and they hunted down two 15lbs. Dorados and got two Yellowfins to boot. The next day clients Jerry and Paul also found their way to two good-lookin' Yellowfins. Then client Ryan caught a pair of Yellowfins (the big one was 35lbs.) on July 5th. Four clients in five days all getting a pair of Yellowfins; clearly Captain Eduardo can consistently provide action for clients.

The fishing has improved the last week or so, evidenced by client Rob's haul on July 7th aboard the Nice n' Tight. He boated an 8lbs. Yellowtail snapper, a feisty little trigger fish, and three Yellowfin tunas. On July 9th client Peter had a fine day catching five 15-20lbs. Yellowfin tunas.

Captain Eduardo's performance has been outstanding the last month, but you must look past the catch count and poundage to really understand what make Captain Eduardo special. Check out this email we received at FishingNosara last week...it is unedited by our staff and represents a true testimonial:

WOW, what a thrill the fishing trips with Captain Eduardo were during our Nosara Costa Rica vacation this past week. Yes I said "trips", we had so much fun our first half-day we went back the next week for a second half-day on the Nice n' Tight.

I have to start with the whole group in the office of Fishing Nosara from Craig and the reservation I made a few months ago to Manuel in the Nosara office. He made me and my family feel so welcome and was so helpful. This is such a top notch outfit!

What can I say about Captain Eduardo, not just a great Captain, but an equally fantastic human being. He represents everyone in Costa Rica so well. We didn't feel like we just went fishing, we made a friend. My boys are 10, 12, and 16 and he really made this fishing easy for them to do.

As far as the fishing, we got off to a slow start on the first trip, but hit some Mahi Mahi about 2 hours in, and we landed two and lost one big one. Then we caught a really nice sized Yellowfin tuna. We caught and released a big Needle Fish. In our five hours we saw hundreds of porpoises, manta rays jump out of the water, a marlin fly in the air, and a few sea turtles.

On our second trip it was just me and the two older boys. Twenty minutes out of port we hit tuna by using popper lures on the top water and in three hours landed 7 tuna, 2 Bonitas and a Rainbow Runner. We were beat and don't think we could have reeled any more in so we headed in early.

Man, were the tuna fillets awesome and a local cook made Ceviche for us with the Mahi Mahi. It was out of this world.

I don't know I can say "thanks" enough to cover how much fun we had and how much we look forward to visiting again.

Captain Vibert is famous in Nosara for his experience and expertise on the local waters. In the last month he has been a model of consistency for his clients and as always their smiles were as full as the fishboxes.

On June 23rd client Marc Utheim booked the Cabo for a 2.5 hour sunset cruise. The boat was swarmed by acrobatic dolphins and they saw a big whale. Mr. Utheim boated a nice Black tuna on the cruise as well.

After a week of maintenance on the Cabo Captain Vibert was back in the water on July 7th, when client Randy who caught a trio of football-sized Yellowfin tunas.

July 12th the Cabo was one half of the 'EPIC Fish-Off'. They stuck to the inshore reefs for an action packed morning catching a 35lbs. Amberjack and a 25lbs. Ponpano. In the afternoon they studiously applied the FishingNosara Cuberra Snapper Fishing Tactic and once again success was found in the form of a 40lbs. Cuberra Snapper.

As long as Captain Vibert is on the reef these big boys don't stand a chance. If a deep understanding of the nuance of reef fishing in Nosara is what you are looking for, you will find it on the Cabo with Captain Vibert.

The Wanderer was the hot boat last month and Captain William kept the momentum going into July. On June 17th these clients had a Double Sailfish day. As always both fish were safely released.

Regular readers of the FishingNosara Costa Rica Fishing Report will remember that last month client Buddy Cherry caught four 20lbs. Yellowfin Tunas on June 15th. Well turns out that on June 16th Captain William put this client on a school of MASSIVE Yellowfin Tuna. The whopper was over 150lbs! Seriously, I can not understate how big this fish is...Buddy Cherry is a big North Florida boy and notice that the fish is almost his size.

Forget about mates Alex and David...This fish is way bigger than they are! This achievement capped off a great week in Costa Rica for Mr. Cherry and has earned him a spot in the newly created FishingNosara Hall of Fame.

On June 23rd client TJ Boulware and his party were on the Wanderer for a 2.5 hour sunset cruise and caught three decent-sized Yellowfin tunas.

These sunset cruises are a great chance for novice anglers to get a feel for fishing without the expense of a full day trip. Our crews are excellent teachers of the craft of fishing and they speak very good English. Even if you have little or no experience on the water FishingNosara's Captains can deliver for you the fishing trip of a lifetime. Clearly from these pictures these ladies got the fishing bug and will no doubt find themselves on the water really soon.

July 3th brought Yorhany Zuņiga on board for an afternoon of fishing and he caught this nice Cuberra Snapper, estimated to weigh around 35-40lbs. Yorhany is a local and close friend to FishingNosara and certainly knows how to catch nice fish.

July 6th was a family day of fishing on the Wanderer when client Andrew Egbert and brought the whole gang along for a great half-day fishing. The lines were popping and the rods bending to the tune of four 15lbs. Yellowfin tunas, three White tunas, a ponpano and a 12lbs. rainbow runner. The kids had a great time and the weather was perfect. Great work by the crew and the Egbert family. See you again soon!

The Wanderer's half of the 'EPIC Fish-Off' showed strong with two macarellas, a 12lbs. White tuna, a 10lbs. ponpano and a tiny little 6lbs. Amberjack. The Cabo team caught more poundage and the Wanderer team caught more fish...a good spirited draw for the great kids from the EPIC Surf Ministries!

While the Marlin and Sailfish have been more elusive the last two weeks, Captain William and the crew feels confident that the big fellas are still out there in force; still they pride themselves on making sure every client has a chance to catch fish and this month's performance really proves that the Wanderer is suited for any kind of fishing you desire.

LAST MINUTE REPORT: On Thursday July 22, the Wanderer released a 250lbs. Blue Marlin. Look for details on this catch to lead off next month's report. Pura Vida!
2010 Ancient City Kingfish Challenge

37.70lbs. King Mackeral

Captain Craig Sutton and the Fishtastic came in second place in this year's tournament. First Mate Carl, Andrew, and Paula were on the crew for the catch, which was in first for the whole first day and most of the final day, but that's fishing.

We were honored to give away a week in Nosara to the lucky winner of the raffle. Great work by the crew, the staff, and Capitan Craig!
