Greetings!
This is Craig Sutton with FishingNosara.com
and this January's report is without a doubt the best to date with lots
of Sailfish, Marlin, Dorado, and Yellowfin Tuna. All of our anglers
had great catches. After the extremely close Dorado bite slowed after
New Years, the Sailfish and Marlin bite has turned on in a major way.
Captain Vibert has had
some super days as usual on the Cabo, making all of his clients very
happy. Captain Eduardo also had lots of good trips on the Nice n'
Tight and the Sportsman with several big catches. As always Captain
Carlos on the Reel Deel has been tearing up the blue water with
several multiple Sailfish days, and a five Dorado half-day! Captain William on the Wanderer had a
double Marlin release on a half day and countless awesome days on the
big Dorados.
Also this month, it was an honor to welcome
Captain Don Dingman and his TV program Hook the Future. They filmed two
episodes in Nosara this month which will hit the airwaves sometime in
March.
Also Kevin Faver's The Outdoors Show will be back on January
24th to film four
episodes with the FishingNosara.com captains; with any luck he may
just surpass last year's episodes which were a huge success.
We've had great clients
this month from Connecticut, Montana, and Vermont...clearly the
tropical weather has been a nice respite from the arctic blasts. Not
only will the weather stay warm, it looks like the "bite" is getting
better and should continue well into the Spring. The calendar is
filling up fast, so don't delay; book today!

Captain
Vibert is our most experienced and consistent team member, and as
usual has provided one successful trip after another. The Cabo was
Vibert's boat of choice this month while he and first mate/son Vibert
Jr. continue to dial in the big Aimee Marie for the new season.
She should be back in the water in late-February.
On January 4th
Frederick Leboutiller was aboard for a trip on the Cabo. He didn't
catch any keepers, but he fought a few huge Dorados and had lots of
action on smaller fare. The next day client Eduard Campbell got on
the same Dorado frenzy, and this client managed to boat three of the
big beauties; all weighing over 30lbs.
Last week was client John
Swolts' turn on the Cabo. This time Captain Vibert took him to all
the good spots and he came back with a little bit of everything: two
Dorados (a 20lbs. and 35lbs.), a 15lbs. Yellowfin tuna, and a pair of
12lbs. Black tunas.
Our most recent report
from Captain Vibert had client Michael Zito on board for a half-day
fishing on January 12th.
The Master Captain negotiated very strong offshore winds and showed
the consistency that has made him a local legend. Despite the
weather, Captain Vibert still delivered for his clients: Two 30lbs.
Dorados and a nice 15lbs. Yellowfin tuna.
Captain Vibert is almost
ready to get the Aimee Marie back in action, so get your group
together and book the big battle wagon today!

Captain
Eduardo closed out last year on a hot streak and by all accounts his
great fishing has continued into 2010. Armed with the new 32'
Sportsman and the legendary Nice n' Tight, Captain Eduardo looks to
continue his dominance of Garza Bay
December 27th
marked Eduardo's last trip of 2009, and he went out with a bang.
Client Jasom Avram was all over the reef in just a 3 hour morning
trip; he caught three Yellowfin tuna (between 12lbs. and 15lbs.) and
two 30lbs. Dorados.

The New Year found Capitan
Eduardo still up to his old tricks. On January 2nd
client Marc de Speville was on board the Nice n' Tight and had a
field day, catching four 10lbs. Black tunas and a 30lbs. Dorado. Then
on January 4th
client Matthew Rempel stayed right on the tail end of the Dorado
bite. At the end of a half-day fishing they had caught two nice
Dorado, one 30lbs. and the other a whopping 45lbs.

Captain Eduardo's most
recent report had client Melissa Fatjo on the Nice n' Tight for a
half-day fishing. With the Dorado bite moving back out, Captain
Eduardo went fishing in deeper water. Throughout the trip they lost a
Wahoo and a very active tailwalking Sailfish. However Ms. Fatjo
stayed busy on the reel catching four 10lbs. Black tunas.
Captain Eduardo has made a
reputation of going after big fish with big results. Look out now
that the billfish bite is back...plenty of huge Marlin and Sailfish
to come in the coming months.

Captain
Carlos is the longest standing Captain on the FishingNosara team and
his boat the Reel Deal was as busy as any this month. His experience,
skills, and good-natured charisma has delighted clients and filled
fishboxes for years now, and he shows no sign of letting up in 2010.
On December 18th
2009 clients Peter and Sarah did great work on the blue water,
catching four feisty 15lbs. Yellowfin Tunas and finishing their day
with a massive 45lbs. Dorado.

On December 27th
Doug Vanderkool had what may be the best sunset cruise in
FishingNosara history: 2.5 hours...FIVE seriously big Dorado. The
largest was just shy of 50lbs. but the smallest was no slouch at
35lbs. Captain Carlos really outdid himself this evening, bringing
our best year to a fitting close.
Captain Carlos took a
break from working and took his two sons Andy and Andreas our for a
sunset cruise. Along with first mate Juan Carlos and Manuel (our
Concierge at Nosara Paradise Rentals) the boys caught two giant
Dorados and released two magnificent Sailfish. Like father, like son?
You betcha!

January 9th
began the Sailfish Bonanza on board the Reel Deel. First up was Mike
Gallazle who released a 110lbs. Sailfish on a morning trip. The next
day client Don and his friends caught two 40lbs Dorados and then
released a pair of 100+lbs. Sailfish. They reupped for another day on
the Reel Deel and caught yet another Sailfish, this one weighing
120lbs. They rounded our the day with a cabrilla, a gallina, and a
40lbs. Dorado by topwater casting over the inshore reef.

As if four Sails in three
days wasn't good enough, clients Mike Gallagher and Dan hooked up
this big Sailfish on January 14th.
This Sailfish bite won't let up!

Most recently, our great
friends Mike Young and Jeff joined Captain Carlos and Javier
Hernandez (General Manager, Nosara Paradise Rentals) for a sunset
cruise. As always, the Reel Deel caught lots of fish in a short
amount of time: four 12lbs. Black tuna, a 10lbs. Yellowfin Tuna, a
12lbs. Rainbow runner, and this beautiful 35lbs. Rooster fish, which
was released of course.

Captain Carlos is all pumped up to welcome
back Kevin and Carrie Faver for more fun on the Reel Deel, but he can
always make room for you and your party so book today!

Captain William has the
Wanderer dialed in for the new season, and in just two short months
this boat has gone from the newcomer to a contender for top boat in
the area.
On December 26, 2009
client Caleb Rose, his father Chris and sister Vita were on board the
Wanderer. "My trips were great," Caleb writes. "I personally
caught probably 10 Dorado and three white tuna. My father was
thrilled to catch a 130lbs. Sailfish and
several Dorado. My sister
also caught two Dorado. Captain William did a great job of putting us
on the fish and the mates (Alex and David) were very helpful and
great to work with."

Chris Rose continues, "We
had a blast. The crew was exceptional, the boat was terrific, the
weather was great, the fish were cooperative, and we are depressed to
be in 14 degree weather with snow on the ground! Returning to
Costa Rica is a priority for us."

On December 27th
client Cindy Burke joined the crew for a half-day fishing and caught
a pair of nice Dorados, one weighing 35lbs. and the other nearly
50lbs. Cindy had a big Blue Marlin on the hook but lost it;
fortunately she finished off her trip with a beautiful 120lbs.
Sailfish release.
The next day client Jacob
Mendelson had similar results, catching a 30lbs. Dorado and releasing
a 150lbs. Sailfish. Captain William continued this consistent
performance with a banner day on December 29th by hooking
up two marlins, releasing a 120lbs. Sailfish, and cleaning up with
seven 30lbs.-50lbs. Dorado.
The new year began on January 5th for the
Wanderer when client Kelly Masterson had an
action-packed day of fishing. The intensifying Marlin bite was felt
in the form of a 600lbs. Black Marlin that managed to escape at the
last second. After losing a big Sailfish Kelly settled into some
great action and ended up catching five 30lbs.-40lbs. Dorado.
The next day client Cindy
also had some near-miss billfish action with lots of Dorado catches
to make up for it: four 30lbs.-40lbs. Dorado and a 30lbs. Wahoo made
it to the fishboxes, but a 500lbs. Striped Marlin and Sailfish
narrowly escaped. That evening on a sunset cruise client Jean
Francois got the most out of his 2.5 hours by bringing home two
30lbs. Dorados and a 10lbs. Yellowfin Tuna.
On January 8th
client Henry had Captain William keep the Wanderer right on top of
the inshore reefs and through a combination of casting and trolling
ended up with two 30lbs. Dorados, a 12lbs. Yellowfin tuna and a 7lbs.
rock snapper.
January 10th
brought Don Dingman, host of TV's Hook the Future, on board the
Wanderer to film an episode. Hook the Future is a show dedicated to
teaching youngsters the finer points of fishing, and Don found some
lucky kids from the Nosara area to take part. On the Wanderer they
caught and released three Sailfish ranging from 80lbs. on up to
110lbs. They also caught five Dorados weighing 40lbs.-60lbs. The next
day he fishing along the Nosara river and filmed another episode.
Look for both of these to air sometime in March 2010.
First Mate Alex with Client David Guido and a magnificent Pacific Striped Marlin!
With the Marlin Bite in
full force, client Linda booked the Wanderer on January 15th
and was at the reel for a double Marlin release: A 200lbs. Black
Marlin and a 250lbs. Blue Marlin! She went looking for the grand
slam, but was satisfied enough with the two big boys and a 20lbs.
Dorado. It was a great day for the boat, client, and crew!

Most recently the Wanderer
welcomed Mikaela, Abby, and friends for a sunset cruise.
These girls are from
Middlebury College (VT) and are teaching English at the Nosara
Library for free. Joined by Manuel they caught a couple black tunas
and lost a big fish. They also were delighted by a huge school of
dolphins. FishingNosara supports the local schools and we are
pleased to see such nice young ladies providing this valuable service
to our community.

It looks like it will be a
great year on the Wanderer. Book Captain William and the boys today
and we may get an email like this one from you:
"We had a really
fantastic time on the Wanderer. You have such a great crew down
there...this was by far the best, most professional and most
accommodating crew I have ever seen. They keep such a clean boat,
were all very professional - tell them thanks again from all of us.
We had lots of fish fries, rice and beans, fish tacos, curry, and
thankfully ate all of the dorado - so tasty!! All that fish helped
us to make a lot of friends!"
Hannah P. - Bozeman, MT
