Greetings!

This is Craig Sutton with FishingNosara and welcome to the December report. I am happy to report that we are LOADED with great catches and photos.

Captain Vibert launched the Cabo in early December and immediately started filling the fishboxes. Captain Vibert's big girl, the Aimee Marie, should be back in Garza any day after her two-year total refit. Look for the Aimee Marie to once again be the top boat in all of Guanacaste.

Captain Carlos got the Reel Deal back in the water in late-November after extensive upgrades to the paint, upholstery, and canvas; she looks awesome! Since the launch, the Reel Deal has been just tearing up the inshore waters.

Captain Eduardo on the Nice 'n Tight gave her complete new paint and maintenance work making the Nice 'n Tight look more like the "new and tight". Captain Eduardo's big battle wagon, the Sportsman, returned in late-November from her annual maintenance. I am happy to report that Eduardo took out my good friend and surfing buddy Dave Liebowitz along with a 30+ year friend Sonny Ruleman out with excellent results. This was Sonny's first trip to Costa Rica and he couldn't be happier with the results.

A big congratulations goes out to Captain William and mates Alex and David on their first full month fishing on our newest boat, the Wanderer. And what a month it was!!! Highlighted by five big Marlin, the boys also brought in countless big Dorado, tons of Yellowfin tuna, and a few good sized Wahoo for their clients.

I'll be back in Costa Rica on January 20th to prepare for the return of the Florida Road's Outdoors Show with Kevin and Carrie Faver. We are hoping to top last year's show that was highlighted by Captain Vibert's big Black Marlin, but that may be a tall order. Until then, you should book your fishing trip with FishingNosara.com today; you may end up like Nosara Paradise Rentals' Concierge Manuel and catch the fish of a lifetime, a 70lbs. Cuberra Snapper on a live Black tuna!

 Tight lines and Pura Vida!

Captain Eduardo is on a tear right now and he looks to be in full stride to start 2010. With both of his boats back in the water, Captain Eduardo has been steadily providing excellent trips for all of his clients

On the December 1st Billy Tucker was on board the Nice 'n Tight for a morning of fishing. In just a quick trip he brought home four 25-30lbs. Dorados and four 15lbs. Yellowfin tuna. That afternoon Captain Eduardo switched over to the Sportsman and the good bites kept on coming: three 25lbs. Dorados to close out the day

Clients Tom and Paul were aboard for a terrific three days of fishing with Captain Eduardo beginning on December 4th. On the first day they reeled in a pair of 30lbs. Dorados and a pair of 12lbs. Yellowfin tuna. Later in the day they caught and released a magnificent 120lbs. Sailfish.

On December 5th they had a field day on white tuna, boating five of the tasty fish in the 10-15lbs. range. The action kept up with four 25-40lbs. Dorados in the boat. On their final day with Captain Eduardo the clients caught two more 25lbs. Dorados and a 20lbs. Amberjack.

Captain Eduardo took client Ball Thompson and David out for a quick morning of inshore reef fishing on December 7th and they had no trouble pulling in some 12lbs. Yellowfin tuna. That afternoon Captain Eduardo first welcomed Dave Liebowitz and Sonny Ruleman for the first of many fishing trips.

They wasted no time on their first afternoon, catching a nice 25lbs. Dorado. Dave and Sonny also added seven 12-15lbs. Yellowfin tunas to the coolers before heading back to shore. On December 8th they returned for another trip, and Captain Eduardo and crew put them on four 25-30lbs. Dorado.

A week later Sonny and Dave were back on Garza Beach looking forward to two more great days with Captain Eduardo. On the 15th they got a sushi-roll worth of Dorado and Yellowfin tuna (about 17lbs. and 12lbs. respectively) and a 20lbs. Amberjack. They also got on one of the best fighting fish on the reef, catching a releasing a 30lbs. Rooster fish.

Finally on the 18th Dave and Sonny finished their Nosara fishing trips by catching a 35lbs. Dorado and a 10lbs. Yellowfin. They also lost a nice sailfish. All in all, the clients had a great time with lots of strikes and action. For Mr. Ruleman this was his first trip to Costa Rica and certainly one he will never forget.

Captain Eduardo still isn't letting up; just a few days ago on December 20th client Rob Caswell caught five 20-30lbs. Dorados and a 15lbs. Yellowfin tuna.

Then on December 21st client Tom Cook was on board the Sportsman for a HUGE day of fishing. How about this: eight 25-40lbs. Dorado, seven 12lbs. White tuna, three 15lbs. Yellowfin tuna and a 8lbs. Yellowtail snapper.

Clearly, Captain Eduardo is dialed in and ready to have a banner year in 2010!

Captain Carlos was on top of his game last year and things can only get better now that the Reel Deel is all refitted and back in the water. We have asked Captain Carlos to further explore the topwater reef fishing just a mile offshore of Garza Bay, and he has been turning his clients on to some amazingly fun and fruitful fishing.

First up was client Jack who worked the topwater while Captain Carlos and crew jigged for deeper fish. Two 17lbs. Yellowfin tunas were in the boat right away, then three 15lbs. White tunas. Then a massive Rooster fish blitzed the deep jig, and the fight was on! They captured the Rooster fish, then released it to fight another day.

On December 18th clients Peter and Sarah were on board the Reel Deel for half day of blue water fishing. Early in the day they snagged a 45lbs. Dorado on the high speed troll, then turned inshore to chase the late-afternoon bite. They had great success, bringing home four 15lbs. Yellowfin tunas. Look out fish...Captain Carlos is back on the water!

With all the excitement surrounding the launch of FishingNosara's newest boat, the Wanderer, let's take a moment here and welcome her top-notch crew. Captain William Barrantes Mendoza and mates Alex and David are all lifelong anglers with deep local roots, and believe me they are more than capable of running such a fine boat.

After releasing four out of the nine Marlin raised in late November, the Wanderer set her sights on more of the big boys. On November 22nd Captain William was joined by Craig and Matty of FishingNosara.com and Nosara Paradise Rentals' head builder Danilo for a 3/4 day of Marlin hunting. Sure enough one more raised, caught, and released for the Wanderer, this one approximately 350lbs.

Chris Savitz of Jacksonville was aboard with Craig and Captain William for several fishing trips in late November. Mr. Savitz was part of the team that rigged the Wanderer and it was quite a thrill for him to catch this massive Dorado. Now, Mr. Savitz is not an especially big guy, but you got to love that this fish is taller than Chris.

With the Marlin bite settling down and the new moon approaching, the Wanderer and the crew focused on pursuing the other species of fish over the next few weeks.

November 23rd brought a great group of folks on board: Barb and Miles Johnston from Canada, Dan Ray (on again-off again Costa Rican resident), and our good friend Greg Vetto from South Florida. After a slow morning, Dan Ray hooked up this beautiful Wahoo that only got in the boat after nearly ripping Dan's arm off at the shoulder.

A few short minutes later and Barb got into a nice fight with a 25lbs. Dorado. With Miles and Craig pitching in and the Wanderer's fighting chair holding fast, Barb and the other clients were breaking out the wasabi sauce in good time!

While that fight was on, Greg very quietly was dueling a Black tuna by himself on the port side. While the crew was busy reeling and gaffing Barb's Dorado, Mr. Vetto caught himself a nice fish. Greg released the fish and joined the rest of the boat in some well deserved fresh sushi.

The next day Captain William welcomed Jacksonville clients Pat and Phil Mickler along with their friends Sue and Russell. The weather turned out to be a little rainy and the big fish were tough to find; however better luck was found on the inshore reefs. They caught four 10lbs. Yellowfins on a variety of tackle, including some nice spoon-casting done by Mr. Mickler.

On November 25th the Wanderer was full up again with Craig, Matty, Lucy from Los Angeles, and 'Lucky' Brian from San Francisco. Brian is an avid surfer who has visited Nosara for several years, but didn't want to go fishing because he thought he was bad luck. No such thing in these waters, my friend! Brian and Lucy absolutely destroyed the schools of tuna on our inshore reefs. Of course, Brian was the icebreaker, catching this 12lbs. Yellowfin tuna first...for the rest of the trip his nickname was 'Lucky'.

Lucy is an LA County Lifeguard who knows a thing or two about water rescues, but I bet she never had a fight in the water like this Yellowfin tuna. She hung tough, and by day's end there were eight yummy tunas for the Californians.

It was a great honor to welcome Senora Richmond Phipps on the Wanderer for a pair of half-day trips on November 27th and 28th. Sr. Phipps has been a fixture in Nosara for over 30 years and is a constant source of inspiration and guidance for everyone who knows her. Don Horn, Craig, and Manuel were along to catch three 12lbs. Black tunas and a 15lbs. Yellowfin. On the second day Richmond reeled this Dorado.

To end the day they trolled over the inshore reefs and applied a special tactic the FishingNosara has developed to catch huge Cuberra Snappers. The approach takes patientce, strategy, and lots of strength on the reel.

It worked to perfection, landing two 50lbs.+ monsters in less than an hour. Wanna know how they caught it?

On November 30th it was Wayne Patterson's turn to harvest the blue waters, and this Jacksonville Beach native knew exactly what to do. He got on this huge wahoo and brought her all the way in on a stand-up fight. "It was awesome, man," Wayne said in an email. "My first wahoo ever and I'll never forget it." It was enough of a catch to make the newspaper all the way back in Jax Beach.

Wayne was joined by fellow Jacksonville client Rocky Warpool and his buddies, and right off the bat Rocky caught a HUGE Blue Marlin. The following day they had an incredible time on the Dorados and more wahoo, plus they had about as much fun as you can have. Check out these big smiles!

Most Recently, clients Neil Jerome and Jim Ray were on the Wanderer. Not to be outdone by brother Dan, Jim Ray had some nice luck hooking up these big 35-40lbs. Dorados not too far offshore. No word yet on the sibling fishing rivalry, but I do know that Dan is on his way back down to Nosara in January and might have something to prove.

The Wanderer has performed beautifully so far and we expect a great 2010 season from the blue beauty. It seems like most of the Marlin hungry clients are revved-up to get on this boat, so hurry up and reserve your dates today!

Casa Bonita Update

Casa Bonita was completed on December 15th and several guests have already spent their vacations in this Costa Rican Masterpiece.

Also part of this construction project was this new privacy gate, our new Grocery store, laundry facilities, and security office. Great work by Danilo and the rest of the construction team!
