Greetings!
Welcome to the FishingNosara.com report. This is Craig Sutton.
I just got back from Nosara and I am glad to report the
sails and big yellowfins were biting en masse. It's been a fabulous
month, and we were honored to host some amazing clients.
First came Richard Moran, his wife Penny and
their two awesome kids Morgan and Ashton. Richard and I fished
together on August 1st and raised several sailfish. I
struck out, but Richard did indeed catch and release a 120 lbs. Sailfish.
Then on August 3rd, Richard and I got on some
true 50+ pound Yellowfin tunas with top water lures on big spinning reels. This
was one of the sickest strike in all of my years fishing.
Eventually we had to stop fishing for them because they
were breaking our 80lbs. braids. As most of you know
losing five of these giant top water lures is tough on our captains
as getting such exotic tackle to Costa Rica presents some problems.
After the Moran family left we welcomed Bobby, Lynn,
and Katie Dean back to our little slice of paradise. Once again, they
had a very successful day of fishing...check out Captain
Carlos' section for all the details.
However the most hours fishing were logged by
Jacksonville newlyweds Terry and Miriam Alexander. We were
super-stoked to host the honeymoon of Coach and Mrs. Alexander. They
had four outstanding days of fishing, enjoyed our Canopy Safari Tour,
took some surfing lessons, and climbed on of our gorgeous waterfalls.
They also enjoyed the services of our in-house massuse...quite a few
relaxing days in Costa Rica.
It looks like the rain will hold off until September
4th when the full moon rises, so it looks like we have the
possibility of a few more weeks of strong fishing. The bite should
continue to improve until the rains settle in.
The work on Casa Bonita is moving along well; the
foundation was finished on August 9th when I left. Now
that I'm back in Florida my attention has turned fully toward the
Wanderer, our 30-foot restoration project that so many of you are
chomping at the bit to fish on.
Lastly, we still have some Christmas dates open so if
you're straddling the fence, jump on down and book today!

Captain Carlos Barrantes
On July 17th Captain Carlos had client Joe
aboard for a half-day of fishing, which yielded a beautiful 40lbs.
Rooster fish and an 8lbs. Ponpano. The crew had a pair of sunset
cruises on July 18th and 22nd with clients Mark
Abolato and Ryan Keown. Though the fishing was a little sparse, both
clients saw lots of dolphins, whales, and sea turtles.
Captain Carlos and the crew of the Reel Deal
got things back on track on July 27th
with client Christopher Lemke. They successfully dueled seven 15lbs.
Jacks early in the day. Then they set for deeper waters and brought
in four 13lbs. White tunas.
July 28th
marked the arrival of one of our favorite clients, Richard Moran. Mr.
Moran brought the whole family to Nosara, and fortunately he caught
enough fish to feed them all.
On his first day, Richard filled the
fishbox with a 10lbs. Yellow tuna, two 15lbs. Jacks, and six 10lbs.
Black tunas, plus he reeled in a 10lbs rainbow runner and a little
needle fish for good measure.
After a day with
Captain Vibert, Mr. Moran was back with Captain Carlos. This time
they brought Javier and Craig of Nosara Paradise Rentals along for
the ride, and the extra hands were put to good use as the spread was
literally getting shredded by some aggressive sailfish. Richard
caught and released a massive 120lbs. Sailfish, the biggest single
fish of his trip, but not his best total day of fishing.
That came on August
3rd
when, once again joined by Craig Sutton, Richard Moran successfully
fought four 50lbs. Yellowfin tuna! These are by far the biggest tuna
we've seen in these waters this year, and it seems as though this
tuna bite will hold strong in the coming months as the rainy season
approaches.
Meanwhile, Captain Carlos hosted another favored
client, Bobby Dean for a two and a half hour sunset cruise in early August. He
caught an excellent range of fish: four 18lbs. Yellowfin tuna, a
13lbs. Whitefin tuna, and a 33lbs. Amberjack. Captain Carlos kept his
hot streak alive with client Tracy Swam on August 6th by
catching seven 15lbs. Yellowfin tuna, eight 10lbs. Blackfin tuna, a
12lbs. Rainbow runner, and a 48lbs Amberjack.
August 7th marked the arrival of newlyweds
Terry and Miriam Alexander to the shores of Nosara and the beginning
of four awesome days fishing with Captain Carlos. Mr. Alexander is
the head baseball coach of the Jacksonville University Dolphins, a
Florida State alum, and (as it turns out) one heck of a
fisherman.
On the first day they caught six 20lbs. Yellowfin
tuna and a 56lbs. Amberjack. They followed up on the 8th
with three 12lbs. Blackfin tunas and yet another 20lbs. Yellowfin
tuna.
Captain Carlos took them our marlin hunting on August 9th
and they managed to raise a 400lbs. Black marlin, but couldn't quite
get the hooks into the great fish before he escaped.
After enjoying the sights around the Nosara Paradise
village, Terry and Miriam Alexander booked Captain Carlos for one
more day on the blue water on August 11th. What followed
was a full-fledged sailfish bonanza. After a half-dozen or so
promising strikes, the couple managed to catch and release three
biggums: 120lbs., 125lbs., and a glorious 150lbs. Everyone here in
the FishingNosara.com family was super-excited for these clients, and
hopefully this plentiful week will serve as a blessing to their new
union. Congratulations to both of you!

Captain Eduardo Carrillo
Captain Eduardo is looking good and feeling good at
the helm of his new 31-footer Sportsman. This new boat has already
established a reputation for efficiency, speed, and most importantly
comfort for up to ten anglers. On July 27th client Ken
Robson caught a 10lbs. Needle fish and a 15lbs. Jack on a two and a half hour
sunset cruise.
On August 4th another client got his chance to
break in the new craft, and did so in outstanding fashion: 12lbs.
Yellowfin tuna, 20lbs. Wahoo, and three Sailfish released: 90lbs.,
100lbs., and 120lbs. These are the kind of days you can expect when
you combine a excellent angler with a top-of-the-line boat.
The next day client Robert Duffy was all over the board
with a 17lbs. Dorado, three 12lbs. Yellowfin tuna, and five 10lbs.
Blackfin tuna. Then on August 10th client Adam Travis had
a great day, starting with four 20lbs. Yellowfin tunas and finishing
with a 120lbs. Sailfish released. Clearly Captain Eduardo has the
Sportsman rigged for battle with all kinds of fish from the feistiest
Jacks to the biggest billfish.
Most recently, Steve Judge and his team did some serious
work in a short amount of time on August 13th. On a sunset cruise
they caught a 12lbs. Ponpano, a 10lbs. Whitefin tuna, and four 12lbs.
Yellowfin tuna in only two and a half hours.
With his new boat dialed-in, Captain Eduardo is due for
some serious rest and relaxation this off-season; however he is still
available for another couple of weeks, so get your party together and
get down on some serious fishing.

Wanderer Update
Whoa Boy!!!! She's starting to come together now!
Along with my right-hand man Jack Weinmann and my left-hand man Matty Jorn, I've dedicated every spare moment I have to this project. Most of the hardware has been installed, and last minute touch-up work on the teak trim, rub rail, and cabin is currently underway. This week we'll be rigging the bottom machine, bilge pumps, tuna tubes, and a half-dozen or so other systems.
To all my Jacksonville friends: Sorry if you haven't seen me in a few weeks but if you need me you know where to find me...right here making this dream a reality.
