Greetings!
Welcome to the FishingNosara.com report. This is Craig Sutton and we are happy to say we have hosted some great anglers this last month and they have been treated with some super Costa Rican fishing. The dorado have been big and abundant with some clients boating nearly twenty per day, and we've also had lots of good-sized yellowfin tunas.
We hosted Jacksonville anglers Peter Kovacic and Sharon Sherman for two great days. Also, our good friend Ronnie Raulerson had a nice half-day. One of the top outings of the month was Bill Pastermack who booked two impressive half-days with Captian Carlos on the Reel Deel where he caught sixteen nice-sized dorado!
I'll be heading to Costa Rica on July 29th to hunt down some of the big Marlins that have been raised by the few boats that have headed to the deep water. It looks like August is going to be another big Marlin month as the Black Marlins settle in for their last big feed before winter arrives in September.
Also, big thanks to Brian Kehone for his contribution to this month's report. He had such an excellent time with Captian Eduarado that he submitted his own account of the trip, complete with pictures. This fishing report is open to all of your submissions, and we gladly welcome the chance to share your stories with the rest of our little fishing family.
Finally, I am happy to report that work on the newest member of our fleet, the 31-foot Wanderer is progressing nicely. The painting is complete and the rigging has just begun in our Florida shops. Keep an eye on this report as we prepare to ship the Wanderer to her final destination.
Tight lines and Pura Vida! |
Captain Eduardo Carrillo
"This crew's professionalism and expertise is second to none and I cannot praise them enough...I never dreamed in my limited time to fish I would get even close to landing a sailfish. Eduardo and his team made a dream come true: landing my first ever sailfish which was in excess of 100lb." (see photo below) "I highly recommend Captain Eduardo and his team; his boat Sportsman is adequately equipped and fit for purpose. I just wanted to say a big thanks to them as they are the business." -Brian Keohane, after fishing on June 8th On June 16th clients Mike and Steven caught five feisty little dorados, a 10lbs. rainbow runner, and three 20lbs. yellowfin tunas.
Then, on June 18th client Jason reeled in three yellowfin tunas (12lbs., 18lbs., and 25lbs.)
The yellowfin bite held on strong for clients David and Todd on June 22nd. They caught five 25lbs. yellowfin tunas, a 10lbs. ponpano, and a 10lbs. cubela snapper.
June 25th marked the arrival of clients David and Elizabeth who booked Captain Eduardo for a half-day fishing. By day's end they had caught two 20lbs. yellowfin tunas and a pretty 20lbs. dorado. Eduardo had a great month of June, which began with the arrival of his new boat and led to solid trips for all of his clients. July began with client David catching a 10lbs. rainbow runner, a 10lbs. dorado, and a pair of yellowfin tuna with the biggest weighing 25lbs. On July 2nd client Robert followed up with a 15lbs. wahoo and a whopping twelve 15lbs. dorado. The tasty fish were biting on the second week of July, highlighted by client William catching three 20lbs. yellowfin tuna on the 5th. Three days later Tom and Klai reeled in two 12lbs. yellowfin tunas and a 10lbs. ponpano. Finally, clients Ken and Bush caught a 15lbs. yellowfin tuna, a 10lbs. ponpano, and two dorado tipping the scales at 30lbs. on July 9th. It should be clear by now that Eduardo is keen to catch the mightest billfish and the tastiest table fare. On July 15th client Ken caught a nice 12lbs. yellowfin tuna, two 10lbs. white tunas, and a staggering ten 12lbs. black tuna. It is quite difficult to hit for the "tuna cycle", and Ken should be quite proud of this prestigious accomplishment. Most recently Bryan and Joan came aboard and ended up with three 15lbs. dorados, a 15lbs. yellowfn tuna, and five sleek 10lbs. blackfin tunas. Captain Eduarado and Sportsman are booked up pretty solid right now, but there are still some openings in his schedule if you act fast. |
| Captain Vibert Blanche

On June 10th Bob Cheers booked a blue water trip with Captain Vibert. They had a magnificent day, catching ten 15lbs. dorados and a pair of 30lbs. wahoo. Once again Captain Vibert knew exactly how long to stay on the dorado school and when to run the deep bait for those wahoo.
A week later, Noah Steed booked two half-days of fishing on the 17th and 19th. The first day he reeled in a 26lbs. yellowfin tuna and a trio of 12lbs. jacks. On the next trip he caught another big yellowfin tuna, ten suegras, three treagles, and two gelgueras.
June 23rd brought a Charlie Belaire to the pristine shores of Playa Nosara for a half-day with Captain Vibert. Unfortunately, they didn´t manage to land any of the big fish. Mr. Belaire had a great time nevertheless, observing whales and dolphins surfacing alongside the boat. And after all, we all know the old saying: "A bad day of fishing beats a good day at work." We applaud Charlie's great attutude and recognize his "Pura Vida" spirit.
On July 14th client James had a banner day with Captian Vibert. By the end of the trip he had caught five 18lbs. jacks, two 15lbs. yellowfin tuna, and a very elusive 18lbs. white tuna. We've seen lots of clients going after these excellent tasting fish recently, and the diversity of the table fare is a testiment to Captain Vibert's long experiance fishing these waters.
Most recently, client David filled the fishbox with a varied haul on July 15th. He came back with three 12lbs. dorados, two 8lbs. ponpanos, a 12lbs. jack, and a 10lbs white tuna. Captain Vibert's schedule is filling up as a fast as ever for these last few months of the season, so if you want to cruise with the most experianced captain in our fleet, you gotta book him soon!

Captain Carlos Barrantes
As captain of the Reel Deal, it should come as no suprise that Carlos Barrantes and his crew consistently deliver great trips and full fishboxes for our clients.
One of our favorite clients Dan Porter signed on for a half-day cruise with Captain Carlos on June 12th. Mr. Porter was all smiles as usual, catching six dorado ranging from 15lbs. to 30lbs. He also reeled in a 30lbs. yellowfin tuna to round out his day.
On June 15th Captain Carlos welcomed another returning client, Scott Vickers. He had lots of strikes and came back with a 15lbs. dorado and a 15lbs. yellowfin tuna to show for his effort.
Two days later client Ronald Lamarre caught a 36lbs. wahoo, a 13lbs. dorado, a 26lbs. yellowfin tuna and a 10lbs. needle fish.
On June 18th client Greg caught a 15lbs. yellowfin tuna and a 15lbs. dorado. The next day Paul Wagnel was aboard to catch four 18lbs. dorados and a beautiful 36lbs. wahoo. This capped off a brillant week for Captain Carlos...five happy clients over a six day span. Way to go Carlos!
After a brief respite, Captain Carlos booked a full-day with Alik Hall on June 25th. He got things started with two 20lbs. jacks, a 12lbs. ponpano, and two 18lbs. rainbows. Finally one of the lines went off big, and after a good half-hour fight Mr. Hall boated a massive 48lbs. rooster fish. After June 29th brought William Pastermack to our little slice of paradise. Now, most clients would be stoked to catch a 26lbs. yellowfin tuna and a 20lbs. rainbow tunney as Mr. Pastermack did. But when you add sixteen 20lbs dorados you have the trip of a lifetime. Congratulations on the great catches Mr. Pastermack!
The month of July has been super busy for Captain Carlos. On July 2nd client Marvin Nichols caught a 15lbs. ponpano and a 40lbs. rooster fish. Clearly the rooster fish bite has moved into our area, and our captains are more than willing to hunt down these great-tasting, intriguing-looking fish. Cl
On July 12th our good friend Ronnie Raulerson caught a pair of 15lbs. black tunas and a 15lbs. jack on a half-day cruise with Captain Carlos. This was Mr. Raulerson's first trip to Nosara, but we expect him back in good time for more great fishing. Now we love our dorados and roosters and tunas, but it's great when a client like Peter Kovacic come around looking for Marlin. On July 13th Mr. Kovacic joined Captain Carlos for the first of two full days fishing. After catching a 15lbs jack and a couple 12lbs. black tunas, Peter prepared for the early afternoon Marlin bite. Sure enough several big black Marlins came tearing through the spread. They raised two of the monsters, but couldn't quite get them to the boat. The next day Mr. Kovacic caught and released a 135lbs. sailfish and barely lost another one. He finished his day by reeling in a pair of 20lbs. black tuna. Peter Kovacic experiance reveals what makes Captain Carlos such a special captain; he combines experience, instincts, and passion for his work to keep the clients smiling all the way back to shore. |
