Greetings!
This is Craig Sutton with FishingNosara.com and NosaraParadiseRentals.com and I just got back from Costa Rica on May 29th. I am pleased to report that the fishing has been great! The wahoo have moved in along with lots of yellowfin tuna and big dorado.
I am happy to report that our good friend Richmond Phipps was back on the water with a vengeance. Senorita Richmond had several awesome trips on the Reel Deal with Captain Carlos.
Also, Captain Eduardo took delivery of his new 31-foot Shamrock which helped him regain his spot as our top captain this month with some huge sailfish catches. Congratulations Captain Eduardo! Captain Carlos has been our most popular captain this month and his clients have been consistently satisfied with lots of dorado and yellowfin catches. Captain Vibert had some very nice catches this month, including a beautiful rooster fish caught by Robert Durango. Meanwhile, Captain David has stayed inshore and is pulling in snook faster than we can keep count while awaiting the shipment of his new boat, the 31-foot Wanderer. It looks like the fishing will stay strong for the whole summer. The inshore bite is hitting strong now, but we expect some of our clients to get offshore this month and track down those big, bad, blue and black Marlins.
Tight lines and Pura Vida! |
Captain Eduardo Carrillo
Captain Eduardo is one of our best captains, and we are thrilled to announce that he now owns one of our best boats. Introducing Sportsman, a 31-foot Shamrock Grand Slam with twin inboard diesel powerplants. The boat was rebuilt and rigged in the USA, shipped to Nosara, and is now a bona fide fish-catching machine. This boat comfortably hauls up to ten anglers, and based on this month's report, be assured that your party will have plenty of fish to share.
On May 16th clients Andy and Debbie had a Sailfish field-day. Throughout the day, sixteen of the big beauties came tearing through the spread; by the end of the day they had caught and released seven Sailfish, all 110lbs! They came back in two days and raised seven more Sailfish, and this time they released four of the monster fish, one weighing over 120lbs!

May 19th brought Ashley and Nathan Duncan aboard Eduardo's new boat for a half-day excursion to the blue water. They returned quite satisfied with a 10lbs. dorado and three 10lbs. black tunas.

It's been said that once you catch a big sailfish, it's all you can think about for the next week. This is clearly true for Andy and Debbie, who booked two more trips with Captain Eduardo on May 20th and 22nd. These additional trips added five more 120lbs. Sailfish to their record, and brought them a couple of 20lbs. dorados.
However, sport fishing can be as humbling and it is rewarding, illustrated by their loss of a 60lbs. yellowfin tuna! This was one of the largest yellowfins we've seen here, and we're hoping that a few of his big friends are ready to be caught in the very near future.
A few days later Captain Eduardo kept the sailfish string alive with client Peter Chicarielli. He managed to reel in a pair of 10lbs. dorado, then he caught and released a 130lbs. Sailfish.
On May 28th Captain Eduardo has a full boat (Tania, Braulio, Jaime, Kendal, Manuel, Javier, Miguel and Greivin) on a three-hour sunset cruise. They had an awesome time, hightlighted by this beautiful 40lbs. wahoo catch. It's always a thrill when our great staff gets in on the fishing action, and these big smiles a perfect illustration of the Pura Vida lifestyle!
Captain Eduardo has stayed busy in June. On the 2nd client Chase caught two 25lbs. yellowfin tunas, a 45lbs. wahoo, and six 13lbs. dorado. The next day Kristy Ellen caught a 15lbs. dorado and three 20-30lbs. yellowfin tuna.
Finally, clients Mike, Patrick, and Ryan had a fantastic day of dorado fishing, filling the fish box with thirteen of the blue-and-yellow beauties, ranging from 10lbs. all the way up to a 45lbs. beast!.

| Captain Vibert Blanche

Once again, Captain Vibert's life-earned experience, knowledge of the local waters, and keen sense of timing has led to full fish boxes and big smiles for all of his clients.
On May 20th Ty Wilson caught a nice 15lbs. dorado and a 10lbs. needle fish on a three-hour sunset cruise. This dorado marked the entry of a new school of the dorado to our waters, a trend that Vibert capitalized on soon after.
May 24th was Peter Chicarielli's chance with Captain Vibert, and they brought home two 12lbs. dorado and a 10lbs. macarela. Sadly, they got four additional dorado on the hooks but couldn't quite bring 'em in.
The dorado frenzy intensified the next day for client Ray Dowlink. He brought a half-dozen dorado into the spread, and eventually reeled in a 10lbs. and 12lbs. dorado.
The peak of this bite finally came on May 26th, when client Erin Vernard join Captain Vibert for a full day of fishing on Cabo. By the end of the trip Erin had packed the fish box with sixteen dorado in the 20-25lbs. range. We're not really sure what to do with 350lbs. of world-class dorado, but we figure that's not a bad problem to have.
May 29th was a day of variety for client Ivan DeLuca, catching a 15lbs. dorado, a 5lbs. jack, and a pair of 10lbs. black tunas. Ivan came back a week later for a full day with Captain Vibert, and they redefined 'day of variety' by reeling in three 12lbs. yellowfin tuna, a 5lbs. gerguero snapper, three little suegras, and a beautiful 10lbs. blackfin tuna.
Oh yeah, did we mention that Ivan DeLuca also caught fifteen dorado in the 20lbs. range?
Most recently Captain Vibert took a half-day morning cruise on June 8th and caught two wahoo (30lbs. and 34lbs.) and ten medium-sized dorados. Clearly Captain Vibert is on a roll with these dorado, and we look forward to more great reports from him as the season hits its peak in the coming months.

Captain Carlos Barrantes
As usual Captain Carlos is making sure that all of his clients are having a great time and catched lots of fish. The weather has been fantastic the last few weeks, and many of Carlos' clients have spotted whales, dolphins, and sea turtles in the crystal-blue water. On May 17th client Daniel had a fabulous day on Reel Deal with Captain Carlos. He hauled in a 10lbs. blackfin tuna, four 20lbs. yellowfin tuna, and a beautiful 33lbs. wahoo. This clearly shows the variety of great table fare availible in these waters. Yummy! In late May the big fish really came on strong. On the 25th, Captain Carlos and his client Cristopher reeled in two massive 125lbs. Sailfish and a whopping 39lbs. dorado. It was such a good time that Cristopher signed on for another day fishing May 27th. Once again, he landed a 125lbs. Sailfish and added three lovely 30lbs. dorados to his tally. Not only did he land some of the best fighting fish in the Pacific, he also dined quite well on the best tasting fish you can imagine.
