Greetings!

      This is Craig Sutton with
FishingNosara.com and NosaraParadiseRentals.com and here is the April report. I just returned from Costa Rica and I am happy to report that things are better than ever. The beginning of the month was a little slow, but since the 15th the marlin bite is back and bringing us some great fish. We expect continued improvement in fishing conditions as the full moon approaches on May 8th.

We were delighted to welcome The Outdoors Show host Kevin Faver and his wife Carrie for an awesome week of fishing and filming. We are honored to appear on Jacksonville's premier fishing and wildlife show. They filmed three full episodes, with the each set to air on Saturday May 9th on WJXX, Jacksonville's ABC-25 (Channel 4 on most cable/satellite).

Now, I'm not one to spoil the ending...but what the heck: Kevin Faver caught a 400lbs. Black Marlin. I would like to personally commend Captain Vibert Blanche and his crew (Vibert Blanche, Jr. and David Barrantes) for this outstanding performance.

Everyone seems to think that the marlin bite should continue to improve for the rest of the summer. Be sure to check out all of our captains' reports below to see how much fun our clients are having. We still have some dates open in May and June, but they are filling up fast. The season will last until August, but if you want to catch a big marlin, you gotta book today!

Tight lines and Pura Vida!

On March 16th Walter Harrier caught a 30lbs. amberjack and a pair of 10lbs. white tunas. The next day Captain Eduardo and client Teko Ingham caught two 15lbs. jacks.

The marlin bite really heated up on March 18th. Good thing for Mike and Carolina, who caught and released a gorgeous blue marlin estimated at 300lbs. By days' end they had raised up two additional marlin.

March 21st marked the first of two days Captain Eduardo has with clients Roberto Stowel and Dan. The first day brought two groupers that tipped the scales at 18lbs. and 28lbs. The next day they beefed up the fish box with a pair of 15lbs. jack and five black tunas ranging from 8lbs. to 12lbs.

On April 2nd John and Rona Ennenga caught a 30lbs. amberjack, two 10lbs macarelas, and three 15lbs. jacks. The following day Robert and Gaynor Thompson caught a beautiful 80lbs. sailfish, and almost brought in another before the trip was finished.

Andrew Starnes brought his 'A' game to Nosara on April 6th, hauling in five 15lbs. jacks, four 10lbs. macarelas and a 5lbs. barracuda.

April 21st was Captain Eduardo's turn with The Outdoors Show team. Once again Kevin and Carrie Faver, Mike, Craig and Manuel were along for the cruise. They warmed up by catching a 15lbs. dorado and a 35lbs. yellow tuna. The big hit came in the form of this strong-fighting 120lbs. sailfish.
Be sure to watch for this catch on The Outdoors Show this Saturday morning.

On March 14th Jayme Vocke caught four black tunas and a jack, all weighing in at around 10lbs. Captain Vibert's busy week continued when Raynee Gutting brought home a nice 15lbs. jack on March 16th. Finally, Kathleen A. Perkins caught a 10lbs black tuna on March 18th.

Casey Miller caught a 5lbs. ceda and a 5lbs. guardia on the 27th to finish the month of March.

April 1st is typically a day for jokes and pranks, but for Scott Capdeville it time to haul in some serious fish: two 15lbs. congrias, a 10lbs.guardia, a 12lbs. grouper, and a 12lbs. black tuna.

On April 8th Debby Brownell put the 'sport' in sportfishing by sparring with a bubbling school of jack. By the end of the day she had caught seven jacks ranging from 10lbs. to 15lbs. and topped it off with a 10lbs. black tuna

Finally, Captain Vibert got The Outdoors Show team onboard for one of the most memorable catches of the year so far. Crewed by Vibert Blanche Jr. and David Barrantes, Captain Vibert took the Cabo inshore first, sight casting around for the shallow fish. They left the area only after hauling in a 50lbs. caberra that according to Craig Sutton "hit the lure like a Buick!"

Around 2:00pm they headed out for deeper water. They trolled around for less than a hour before a magnificent 400lbs. black marlin hit the spread. Craig hooked it, then Kevin Faver fought the great fish for 40 minutes, highlighted by a 35 second stretch of above-water motion. After a grueling fight, and a long week of fishing, Mr. Faver had caught himself a big-time Costa Rican black marlin!

"Everytime I think about that fish, a big smile creeps across my face."

Captain Carlos Barrantes

Captain Carlos has been our busiest captain this month, keeping the fish box just as full as his calendar. Though April marks the beginning of the season, Carlos is already in mid-season form.

Captain Carlos took Richard Billington for two great days of fishing on March 18th and 19th. Overall, he caught a 35lbs. wahoo, four 12lbs. black tunas and three 18lbs. jacks.

On March 23rd, one of our favorite clients Jeff Fox caught two 130lbs. sailfish and a 45lbs. wahoo. Mr. Fox has taken many cruises with our captains, and everytime it seems like the fish are jumping into his boat.

Emily Stern chartered Captain Carlos on March 27th and caught: a 10lbs. black tuna, a 13lbs. white tuna, and a 13lbs. macarela.

March 29th was a bad day to be a black tuna but a great day to be Tony Lee, who hauled in thirteen of them. Mr. Lee rounded out his day with a 12lbs. marela.

Captain Carlos finished the month of March by taking Carolyn Burke on a Nature Tour. Their boat was escorted by three playful dolphins, and by the end of the tour they had seen over 150 turtles in the wild. Please follow the above links for videos of the astounding wildlife of the Nosara area.

On April 7th Bruce Tustin caught a 20lbs. jack and a 10lbs. white tuna. After taking a day off, Mr. Tustin reupped with Captain Carlos for another day on the water. The second trip yielded three 10 lbs. ceda snapper, a 15lbs. rock  snapper, a 20lbs. African ponpano, a 25lbs. rooster fish, and a 20lbs. rainbow tunner.

Chris Hace had a fantastic trip on April 13th, catching six 20lbs. yellow tunas and barely missing out on a cubera snapper. Later that week on the 16th, Kelly Coquette caught two jacks weighing 20lbs. and 30lbs.

Local philanthropist and friend of FishingNosara Seņorita Richmond had a fantastic day with Captain Carlos. She caught and released a 35lbs. Rooster fish, and rounded out her cruise with a 12lbs. white tuna and six 15lbs. jacks.

On April 20th, Captain Carlos was joined by Kevin and Carrie Faver of The Outdoors Show. Accompanied by Javier Hernandez and Craig Sutton, they set off searching for the best sportfishing in Costa Rica, and we are happy to report that they were not disappointed.

The Outdoors Show crew caught and released two massive sailfish weighing approximately 100lbs. and 150lbs. They also hooked but lost a big dorado. The next day Chris joined in on this massive haul: 4 13lbs. white tunas, 2 15lbs. yellow tunas, a 60lbs. rooster fish (released), and a 40lbs. dorado.
