*** PORTFOLIO PANELISTS STILL NEEDED! ***

LEARN WHAT'S REALLY GOING ON IN HUMANITIES!
Come be a Humanities Portfolio panelist: June 9-12!

Gateway's Humanities Department needs your help.  Every year, students in Humanities complete and present a portfolio that reflects their learning and growth over the course of the year.  Because we feel that it's crucial for students to present their work to members of the larger community-not just to their teacher-we are looking for volunteer panelists to support our Humanities 10 and 11 students.

Volunteering as a portfolio panelist is a great opportunity to see the hard work and growth of Gateway's students and to be an active part of the school community.  We ask that you commit to sitting on one full panel (5 students, 2 hours) during the week of June 9-12.

If you're interested in volunteering to be a portfolio panelist, please call Joanne Wells at 415-749-3600 x 10 to sign up for a panel.

We will be contacting panelists with more details as we get closer to Finals Week.  If you have questions about being a panelist, email Aaron Watson awatson@gatewayhigh.org.

*** TUTOR PROGRAM RECOGNITION TEA ***

Every year, Gateway thanks the tutors, teachers and parents who volunteer many hours on top of their busy schedules in order to spend extra time working with students in the Tutor Program.

In their honor we will be giving a Recognition Tea (Annual Muggy Awards) in our lovely Library on Wednesday, June 11th, from 4-6pm.

We need help with shopping, baking, setting up, decorating, etc.  If you would like to participate in any way, or send something for the party, please contact Joanne:  jwells@gatewayhigh.org or phone her at 415-760-9367.

Students in the Tutor Program are also invited to participate and should talk to Ms. Wells in the Main Office if they would like to earn extra community service hours at the same time.

*** GPA PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE ***
             FROM TRACY PORE

As we approach our final GPA Meeting of this school year, I'd like to thank everyone who has attended our meetings and those who have contributed to Parent Association projects throughout the year.  It truly takes a village, and Gateway has one stupendous village!  A special thank you to this year's Officers who have gone above and beyond:  Jenny Hart, GPA Vice President, Amy Joseph, GPA Treasurer/Logowear, and Ginny Gjedsted, GPA Secretary.  I am so thankful to have been a part of the Gateway family for the past 6 years.  This school truly is an amazing place.  The faculty and staff are supreme.  And that translates to the student body.  I am proud that both of my children were able to attend Gateway.  Their growth from 9th graders to young adults has been a complete transformation and a pleasure to watch.  Not to mention the growth of Gateway itself.  As an alum parent, I will miss Gateway, but will always keep my fingers on the pulse.

Our final and very important GPA Meeting will take place on Tuesday, June 3rd at 6pm in the Gateway libraryPlease join us for the election of officers for the 2008/2009 school year.  Nominations for the positions of President, Vice President, Treasurer/Logowear, and Secretary are being accepted in advance and at the beginning of the meeting.  There are also many opportunities for parents to be involved with numerous Committees who work at various times during the school year.  Sign up sheets will be available at the meeting.  The Officer Elections will close the meeting, which is expected to end at 7:00pm.  Contact: tpore@sfspca.org with your advance nominations (you can even nominate yourself)

Gateway's 10/10 Party!

Gateway will celebrate 10 years of achievement with a fabulous party including wonderful food, wine, entertainment, silent auction and an exciting live auction.  Save the date: October 10, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Forum, 6:00pm-9:00pm.  This is a parent-sponsored event to raise funds to support the school programs.  Please join the party to help us reach our goals.

The Auction Committee, chaired by Ginny Gjedsted, will meet immediately following the GPA Meeting on Tuesday, June 3rd at 7pm in the Gateway library.  Come learn how you can be part of this.

*** THANKS TO ALL WHO HELPED OUT!!! ***
           YOU DID MAKE A DIFFERENCE

As the year draws to a close, we would like to thank our very generous parents (click here) who gave time and contributions to Gateway this year.
Have a wonderful summer!

-The Development Office

***  SO LONG FOR NOW  ***

This is the last Gateway CommuniGator of the 2007-08 school year (has it really gone by this fast?).  Have a great summer, and check your emails in 12 weeks.  We'll be there!

P.S. This is also my last CommuniGator.  It has been my personal pleasure to serve as its editor over the last 3 years!  A big thank you to Pat Napoliello, Joanne Wells, and Kevin McCoy, my "partners-in-crime," for their phenomenal help, dedication, and patience.  And a huge welcome and thanks-in-advance to Barbara Kirkwood, who has agreed to take over the helm of this august publication.

I can only echo what Tracy has already said about Gateway.  A singular place to be sure!  Thanks to all the teachers, staff, and parents who are the heart and soul of the school.  My son David started at the 7th Avenue campus, a freshman barely out of puberty.  He has emerged four years later much taller, with a deeper voice, a better complexion, but more importantly a harder worker, a better reader, a better writer, a better thinker.   With all of your help, I believe he is ready for college and beyond.  I can't thank you enough.

Gateway really is a special place.  When you give of yourself and your talents, you end up getting back so much more!

David and I will always cherish our years at Gateway!

-Jon Bernstein
