*** GATEWAY ANNUAL FUND ***
Dear Gateway Parent,
Please take a moment to contribute to Gateway's Annual Fund.
Parent contributions are an essential part of the overall money raised each year that enables Gateway to spend an additional $2,200 per child, for your child.
While we are very grateful to have raised $100,000 from parents this year, we are $50,000 short of our goal. Last year, 82% of our parents contributed to the Annual Fund. This year the participation rate is 52%.
The school deserves 100% participation. Please give what you can today. You can donate by sending cash or check to school, and we accept VISA or Mastercard.
Just send in your donation amount and card number with expiration date. You can also make your donation online by going to www.gatewayhigh.org and clicking the "donate now" button.
We are happy to accept matching gifts from your company to double your dollars, and we can automatically deduct from your checking account. Just email Tina McGovern for details. tmcgovern@gatewayhigh.org.
And a huge thanks to those parents who have already generously donated! Annual Fund Donor List

*** MEET OUR PARENTS *** Michael & Anna Johengen
Gateway parents give so generously of their time and funds to ensure Gateway continues to be a model of what quality public education can be. We deeply appreciate all who made a gift to Gateway this year.
In this issue of the Communigator, we introduce you to Michael and Anna Johengen. Parents of sophomore Chris Johengen, phonathon volunteers, event volunteers, matching gift donors and contributors to Gateway, Mike and Anna Johengen, like so many of you,"step up" for Gateway. Here is their story:
Q. Why did your family choose to attend Gateway?
A. We chose Gateway because of the strong leadership of the administration, dedication and enthusiasm of the teaching staff, small class size and individualized attention from the teachers, ethnic diversity of the student population, strong athletic teams and the fact that it is a free public education! Gateway came with universal endorsement and high recommendations by parents of alumni students.
Q. Why do you make the choice to give to the Parent Annual Fund?
A. We are compelled to donate money to Gateway because we see the value in the amenities and programs that can be afforded. We are so impressed by the enthusiastic and hard-working teachers and the continuing accolades that Gateway receives, that with our support even greater heights can be achieved.
Q. You have always "stepped up" to call other parents at our annual phonathon and you sign up to help with events. You both work and have little time, how do you decide give Gateway hours of your time?
A. We volunteer for phonathons and are active in the GPA because we feel an obligation as parents to support our public school in times of diminishing state resources. As active volunteers at Rooftop, where our 2 boys attended, we experienced firsthand the benefits of strong parent support.
Q. Tell us about your participation in the matching gift program for Gateway.
A. We take full advantage of the generous donor matching program at Macy's. It is a simple and painless way to double our contributions. It is a matter of filling out a form and the contribution is deducted directly from Anna's paycheck. Everyone whose employer offers a program such as this should take full advantage. If you are interested in signing up for our auction or to help with our fundraising program, please email our Director of Development, Tina McGovern at tmcgovern@gatewayhigh.org or call 415-749-3600 x 19. |
