*** LEAVE YOUR OWN LEGACY OF LOVE ***
THE GATEWAY ANNUAL FUND NEEDS YOU!
The
Gateway Annual Fund is a vital way for you support the school. Annually,
every parent is
asked
to contribute to the Fund. Your contributions directly benefit your child
and all the
students
at Gateway. With your contributions, Gateway closes the “gap”
between what the
State
pays for and what Gateway offers.
This “gap” is more than $2,400 per student.
Closing
that gap accounts for our Small Classes, our College Counseling Program, the
Learning
Center,
our Sports Program, and much more. In short, your contributions make
Gateway the
kind
of school that attracted you to it in the first place.
You
are the heart of Gateway, and we appreciate all that you do with your time,
talent, and
contributions…always.
We are at 57% of our goal to meet our operating budget (see attached) – your gift
is
essential to ensure that Gateway can continue to offer such a strong and full
academic program.
To those of you
who have already contributed, many, many thanks.
For those of you
who are ready to make a thoughtful gift today, there are easy ways :
1.
Log onto the website at www.gatewayhigh.org and push
the “DONATE NOW” button
on
the website and we receive your online donation instantly!
2.
Mail or drop off your donation at the School anytime.
3.
For further information or to set up a plan for easy payments, please contact
Tina McGovern: tmcgovern@gatewayhigh.org
or call 415-749-3600 ext. 19
All amounts welcome and pledges are happily accepted.

*** ATTENTION SENIOR PARENTS! ***
Our esteemed
College Counseling Team wants you to know that the deadline to apply
for the Cal
Grant is fast approaching, March 2.
What is a Cal
Grant? It is a grant funded by the state of California that assists
low and
middle-income students with college tuition and expenses.
Applying for the
Cal Grant is easy and only requires two things.
The first is the
2008-2009 FAFSA, which is also due on March 2.
To file the Free
Application for
Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), please visit www.fafsa.ed.gov.
The second item
needed is the Cal Grant GPA Information Release Form. This form
can be downloaded
by clicking here and needs to be returned to the College Counseling
Team no later than
February 27.
To read more about
the Cal Grant, please visit www.calgrants.org.
If you have any
questions or concerns, please contact Mr. Rangel (jrangel@gatewayhigh.org)
or Ms. Schafer (cjschafer@gatewayhigh.org).

*** ATTENTION JUNIOR PARENTS! ***
2nd Simulated
SAT coming in March
First
of all, thanks all of the juniors and parent support to get them to Gateway on
time
on an early and rainy Saturday morning for our first Simulate SAT. We
especially
thank
the parents that helped proctor the exams.
We
will be administering the second Simulated SAT on Saturday, March 8.
The
exam will begin at 8am and should end between 12:30 and 1pm.
We are
looking for 5-6 volunteers to help proctor exams. This a great
opportunity
for
parents to get a better idea of the how the exam is run and what students are
facing
when they take their SAT exams.
If you
are available and would like to participate, please let our College Counselor
Joel Rangel
know
by sending him an email: jrangel@gatewayhigh.org
He’s
very excited and encouraged by the enthusiasm that the class of 2009 has
brought
to the
college counseling program, and hopes to see it flourish as the semester
progresses.

*** WE’RE STILL DESPERATELY SEEKING TUTORS! ***
Support
Gateway’s Tutor Program after school!
Math and/or Science tutors/ coaches of any level
are most welcome to volunteer in the Learning Center
or
the Math Lab., on any Monday through Thursday after school.
THERE
ARE NEVER ENOUGH ONE-ON-ONE TUTORS FOR OUR STRUGGLING STUDENTS.
We also
need volunteers to give out snacks to the students between 4 and 5pm,
Monday through Thursday.
If
someone could donate just one hour for one of those days in the week, our
students would be most grateful!
Sometimes,
our students cannot focus on their assignments because they are so hungry at
that time of the day.
Please contact our Tutor Program Coordinator, Joanne Wells, if you
can help in any way:
jwells@gatewayhigh.org
or phone: 415-749-3600 ext. 10
