The article titled, "Water Management Plan Revisi-ons Favor Lakes "in the February issue of Water Matters newsletter, con-tained two errors. The new "anytime" cutoff for irrigation water is shown in the article as 600,000 acre-ft. of combined lake storage. The correct figure is 650,000 AF.

The last sentence in the article says that the T.C.E.Q. emergency order calls for a curtailment of irrigation water for the 2012 season if the combined lake storage volume is below 650,000 AF on March 1st, 2012. The correct figure is 850,000 AF.

 

 

 

 

 

Near Miss

The LCRA board approved the revised Water Management Plan (WMP) at their regular meeting in February, 2012. Stringent new measures concerning the availability of irrigation water in a severe drought are contained in the new WMP.

Due to the extreme drought conditions in 2011 and the low levels of the reservoirs, the LCRA board realized in November, 2011 that unless conditions improved in the meantime, another rice irrigation season could be disastrous for their firm water customers. But given the fact that approval of the new WMP by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) could take a year or more, something needed to be done before another rice season began in early 2012.      read on
