The Austin Boat Show has combined with the Central Texas Hunting & Fishing Show to produce a "must-see" for 2011. The show will be held at the Austin Convention Center, as usual, from Thursday, January 20 through Sunday, January 23.

Ask for the location of the Highland Lakes Group booth at the door. At the booth will be copies of the Water Matters newsletter, as well as souvenir key chains and coozies.

Lake Economics

A new study is in the process of being funded about the scope and size of the economy of Lake Travis. The study has come about as a result of the creation of an advisory panel to help LCRA bring its Water Management Plan up to date. Interest groups represented on that panel include rice, the lakes, environmentalists, and state water agencies. The rice and lakes interest groups will be making presentations showing the economic importance of water to its part of the Texas economy.

The lakes group has decided to hire professional help to prepare an estimate of the size of the lake Travis economy and its importance to the local counties.

The first recorded effort to measure the size and scope of the economies of the interest groups was in 1989 when the first Water Management Plan was published by LCRA. There was a section in that first plan devoted to a description of the economic impact of both rice and the lakes.
