Where is Ciarcia Field?

Did you know that the high-school playing field, popularly known as Skillings Field, was officially named for John H. "Jake" Ciarcia by Town Meeting in 1995?  Ciarcia (1933-2005) was a life-long resident of Winchester who served as Town Engineer for 24 years, retiring in 1994.  The Chamber of Commerce named him Citizen of the Year in 1986.

To recognize Mr. Ciarcia's contributions to the town of Winchester, the WSC asks our membership to refer to the high school fields by its official name: Ciarcia Field.

Coach of the Year Winners
coach of the year The Winchester Soccer Club named two coaches - Pat Foley from our girls travel teams and Allan Wilde from our boys travel teams as the recipients of the 2007 Carl Ockerbloom Coach of the Year Awards.  The Winchester Soccer Club's Coach of the Year Award was renamed in Carl Ockerbloom's memory in 2005 after his passing from cancer a little over three years ago.  Carl was an active soccer coach and parent of three girls in our program over the years.

Marie Ockerbloom said, "We are so appreciative to the club for naming this award in Carl's honor.  It is such a nice and appropriate way for us to remember him.  Carl never wanted recognition -- his passion for coaching came from his love of sport and the kids.  Pat and Allan represent this spirit of coaching 'to a tee.'

Coach Mentor Program Expands

WSC expanded its highly successful Coach MentorSandlot program to include the U10 through U12 age groups last season.  The Coach Mentor program, started 2 years ago and offered to all Sandlot age groups, pairs up WSC's volunteer coaches with the highly trained, professional coaches from Mass Youth Soccer Association.

"Mass Youth Soccer coach mentors work alongside our volunteer coaches, providing them with lesson plans, demonstrations and advice along the way," said Charlie Stackhouse, Winchester Soccer Club's training Director.  "The mentors are available during team practices to assist and guide the coaches and players."  This unique program was highlighted in the recent edition of Mass Youth Soccer News, the state-wide soccer publication, as well as the Winchester Star.
