Accreditation Spotlight: PHAB Call for Input: Planning Survey
The Public Health Accreditation Board's (PHAB's) Fee Development Committee requests input from health departments that will assist them greatly in workload planning. The survey is meant to provide current information that will advise the immediate planning for PHAB, including the development of the fee structure for accreditation. Respondents will not be obligated to PHAB in any way based on this survey. PHAB needs the name and size of responding health departments simply for planning purposes related to the categorization.
The survey takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. The information will not be shared beyond the PHAB Board and staff. Please provide best estimates in responses as there is no penalty now or later if information changes.
The survey is available here and will only be open until February 28, 2011, so please complete it at your earliest convenience. Contact PHAB with questions at comments@phaboard.org. |
QI Spotlight: Building a QI Culture at a Local Health Department
A recent NACCHO webinar, entitled "Building a QI Culture at a Local Health Department," featured the efforts of the Sedgwick County Health Department (KS). The local health official and two staff members who lead their quality improvement (QI) efforts provided insight into:
- building an organizational culture that embraces QI
- the importance of integrating QI into organizational culture
- the development of a QI plan and using it to guide efforts throughout the agency
- movement from discrete QI initiatives to the adoption of organization-wide QI
- challenges, strategies for success and measures of success for achieving a culture of QI within an LHD.
NACCHO has posted Sedgwick County's QI Plan, QI Policy and RFP for a QI Consultant on their accreditation preparation and QI website. The archived recording of this webinar, along with a document answering questions that arose, can be viewed here along with recordings of NACCHO's other previous webinars. Please contact Lowrie Ward at lward@naccho.org or (202) 507-4196 with any questions. |
Prerequisite Spotlight: Community Health Assessment Webinars
PRC, a healthcare marketing research organization, hosted a webinar series recently describing various local experiences with community health assessments. From the perspective of an LHD, a hospital, and other community organizations, these webinars explain how communities conduct health assessments and use the results to partner with local agencies to address community needs. The webinars are available online here. Contact Bruce Lockwood, PRC's Community Health Director, with questions at bruce@prconline.com or 800-428-7455. |
Get Involved: Join NACCHO's QI Leaders Community
NACCHO convenes a network of QI leaders in LHDs, and invites individuals to join who are either designated as the lead for QI, or have informally accepted this role. The purpose of the network is to provide a forum for peer exchange, and also to enhance NACCHO's understanding of QI activities in LHDs. NACCHO has a formal e-mail distribution list to facilitate communication among participants, and also holds periodic conference calls and webinars for the QI leaders. If you are interested in joining this group, contact Grace Gorenflo at ggorenflo@naccho.org or (202) 507-4219.
