Article1NEW ARCHIVED NACCHO WEBCAST: The Prerequisites for National Accreditation

A new webcast in the Quality Improvement & Accreditation Preparation Webcast Series is now available online for free viewing. The webcast, CHAs, CHIPs, and Strategic Plans, Oh My! The Prerequisites for National Accreditation, discussed key elements of the Public Health Accreditation Board's (PHAB) eligibility determination process, including the submission of community health assessments (CHAs), community health improvement plans (CHIPs), and strategic plans. Three local health departments (LHDs) shared examples of document development to assist other LHDs in preparing for national accreditation. To view the webcast, visit www.naccho.org/accreditation and click on "Previous Webcasts" on the right-hand side. Please contact Pooja Verma with any questions at pverma@naccho.org or (202) 507-4206.

Article2GOT A COMMUNITY HEALTH IMPROVEMENT PLAN? Share Yours with NACCHO

Circle of HandsTo be considered eligible for the voluntary national accreditation program starting in 2011, LHDs will be required to submit a current community health improvement plan (CHIP) as part of the eligibility determination process (in addition to an agency strategic plan and community health assessment). NACCHO is collecting CHIPs and stories prior to the launch of the program, and we need your help in order to share examples with LHDs and to assist in accreditation preparation efforts. NACCHO will choose several CHIPs to post on the Accreditation & QI Web site, and will remove any identifying items at the request of the agency. If your agency's CHIP is chosen, the submitter will be entered into a raffle to win a copy of the Public Health Quality Improvement Handbook published by the Public Health Foundation and the American Society for Quality.  If you would like to share your agency's CHIP and story with NACCHO and other LHDs, please e-mail a copy to Penney Berryman Davis at pdavis@naccho.org or call (202) 507-4213.

Article5NACCHO QI TRAINING SURVEY

NACCHO offers LHDs a number of QI training opportunities through the QI- Paper PeopleAccreditation Preparation & QI Webcast series, face-to-face trainings, and demonstration sites projects.  NACCHO has partnered with the North Carolina Institute for Public Health (NCIPH), through a grant funded by RWJF, to examine the effectiveness of QI trainings provided by NACCHO.  A substantial portion of this project involves surveying LHD staff who were registered participants in one or more of these training sessions to identify strengths and areas for improvement in QI training strategies.  If you or your LHD staff are chosen to participate in this survey, we look forward to your feedback in our efforts to provide relevant QI knowledge and skills to LHDs, and continue to advance QI in the field of public health.

Article6ASSOCIATION FOR COMMUNITY HEALTH IMPROVEMENT CONFERENCE

ACHI is hosting their annual conference in Jacksonville, FL, from March 4-5, 2010.  This year's two-day conference is focused on three topic tracks including practicing evidence-based community health, achieving community benefit program excellence, and creating healthy communities.  This is an excellent and interactive learning opportunity for public health decision makers and program managers to engage in mini skill-building workshops, story-telling breakout sessions, and networking opportunities. It also provides an opportunity for LHDs to learn more about developing their own community health improvement plan as they look ahead to national accreditation.   For more information on the conference and how to register, visit http://www.communityhlth.org/communityhlth/conf2010/annualregis10.shtml or e-mail communityhlth@aha.org.
