Dear Friends:
Once again we are so grateful to you for your support of our clean water programs in Liberia!
As you know, the world water crisis is one of the largest public health issues of our time, causing 2 million deaths every year. In Liberia, millions lack access to clean water and sanitation facilities. Unsafe water and inadequate sanitation facilities directly affects every area of development. Children cannot attend school if they are sick from dirty water, and adults suffering from water-borne illnesses overwhelm hospitals and cannot go to work. Hours spent looking for and collecting clean water mean hours not spent adding to a family's economic well-being. In short, the best-intentioned efforts at development fail if the basic necessity of clean water is not met.
Thanks to you, this year, hundreds of students, market women, and local residents now have access to clean water and sanitation facilities and benefited from our comprehensive health and hygiene workshops. With your continued support, we will fund and support even more projects to make access to safe drinking water and improved sanitation a reality for thousands more.
On behalf of the men, women and children whose lives are touched by your generosity, thank you again and here's to a 2012 filled with peace, love and clean water for all!
Sincerely,
Saran & the entire FACE Africa team

Hope Mission School Project Completed!
Earlier this month we accomplished our goal of bringing improved access to clean water, sanitation facilities, and hygiene practices to students at the Hope Mission School and residents of surrounding communities in Bernard Farm.
Specifically the project included: * 40ft Hand-dug Well + Construction of a Handpump * Construction of a 6 compartment Latrines * Construction of a Handwashing Station * Formation of School Health Club * Pump Mechanic Training * WASH Service Management Committee To support these efforts and ensure sustainability, the our team worked to build the capacity of the community Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Committee in water point management and maintenance and also conducted hygiene promotion workshops to encourage positive behavior change, especially among students at the Hope Mission School.
We are extremely grateful to the Voss Foundation for their generous grant to fund the Hope Mission School Project! See photos of the entire project here >> | | a young student drinks from the newly installed handpump |

Next Project!
Project #5: Help the Children Orphanage
There is an existing open well in the compound runs dry during the dry season. According to Rev. Kofa the well water is only used for washing, bathing and cooking. There is private hand pump in the community which is about a 15 minutes walk from the home and the children are mainly responsible for fetching water, which costs $50.00 Liberian dollars (0.75 cents to buy.
With the support from Symphony and the Ports family, FACE Africa will implement a WASH project to bring improved access to clean water, sanitation facilities, and hygiene practices to the children and administrators of the Help the Children Orphanage. Residents from the community will also benefit from the hand pump. Use of the toilets will be restricted to the home.
Specifically the project will include: * Cleaning and dredging of the existing well * Building and installing culverts (cement rings) * Construction of a Handpump * Construction of a 2 compartment Latrines * Handwashing Station * Pump Mechanic Training * WASH Service Management Committee
Please stay tuned for more updates from the Orphanage project! |
