| Community Meeting on 435-463 N. Park Drive, May 8 | |  A community meeting sponsored by SOAR and Alderman Reilly's office will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, May 8 to discuss the development proposed for 435-463 North Park Dr.
The meeting will take place at the Embassy Suites, 511 N. Columbus Dr., in Salon A, B, C and will begin promptly at 5:30 pm. RSVPs for this meeting are not necessary.

In February 2012 an application for a change in zoning was filed for this parcel. SOAR & Alderman Reilly hosted a community meeting in late March. Based on feedback of community concerns & suggestions, SOAR requested that the Alderman defer the proposal from the Plan Commission hearing in April. It was deferred to allow the developer time to address these issues & concerns. This meeting is an opportunity for residents to learn about the developer's proposed changes, ask questions, etc.

NATO Summit, May 20 & 21

 Mark your calendars! The NATO summit will be held in Chicago at McCormick Place from 2 pm on Sunday, May 20th through 2 pm on Monday, May 21st, but you may experience disruptions from traffic and security operations for a day or two before and after the event. Many visitors will arrive in Chicago on Saturday May 19th, so plan accordingly.

BBQ on the Pier & Volunteer Celebration, June 6

Join SOAR Wednesday, June 6th for a BBQ at the Pier & Celebration of Volunteers from 6:30-9:30 pm at The Landshark Beer Garden at Navy Pier (east end of the pier).
Enjoy the outdoor atmosphere surrounded by the unique personality of Navy Pier and the Chicago skyline. Visit with SOAR members and Streeterville neighbors, make some new friends and learn more about SOAR volunteer opportunities. BBQ will be served at 7:00 pm and a cash bar will be available all evening. Stay for a spectacular view of the fireworks beginning at 9:30 pm.

 SOAR will be hosting the ever-popular Artisan Market Streeterville this year on Saturday, November 10th and Sunday, November 11th from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm each day. The event will take place at the Robert H. Lurie Medical Research Center of Northwestern University, located at 303 E. Superior St.
We are looking for local artists working in a variety of media to show and sell their work. The committee is now accepting applications for artisans for the event and we would like to invite all talented Streeterville & Chicagoland residents to apply.

Streeterville residents who are interested in being considered as a candidate to serve as a director of SOAR's Board of Directors are invited to submit an application to the Nominating Committee.
Since 1975, SOAR, a volunteer-driven organization, has been engaged in working on behalf of Streeterville's residents to preserve, promote and enhance the quality of life and community. Grassroots advocacy helps ensure that public services and private interests incorporate the everyday experience of neighbors. SOAR Board members gain interesting and important insights into how all stakeholders work together to "keep Streeterville a neighborhood." To turn these insights into policy requires participation by residents from every corner of the community (Chicago River to East Lake Shore Drive/Oak Street, and from Rush Street to Lake Michigan) who offer complementary skills and experience.
Interested Streeterville residents are asked to complete an online application and submit copy of a current resume or CV.
SOAR Board members are elected for two (2) year terms at SOAR's annual meeting. Read letter to potential candidates.

The Center for Lifelong Learning presents Change and Continuity in the Middle East: Understanding the Arab Spring, a mini course held Thursdays, 10 & 17 from 3:00-4:00 pm. RSVP & Learn More.
Children's Memorial Hospital's Move for the Kids 5K Run/Walk will start in Lincoln Park on Saturday, May 12 at 8 am and end in Lake Shore Park with a post-race celebration. SOAR members are invited to come celebrate in the park with free refreshments and entertainment. Guided tours of the new hospital, Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, will be available from 10 am to 5 pm. Learn More about this event.

There are many ways to become active and engaged in SOAR's efforts in Streeterville. Volunteers can contribute through one-time efforts, work on special events or projects, assist in the office, or participate on an ongoing basis with SOAR's task forces and committees.
