| Streeterville Spring Cleanup, April 21 | | | Join us this Saturday, April 21st RAIN or SHINE for SOAR's annual Streeterville Spring Clean Up Day!!
Volunteers will meet at Streeterville Properties, 432 E. Grand Ave. for coffee and donuts and to pick up a cleaning tool--brooms, rakes, shovels, and garbage bags will be provided. Groups will then be transported by Chicago Trolley to an assigned East/West street in Streeterville where you will make your way from Lake Shore Drive to Michigan Avenue.
Come out, meet your neighbors and join us in making a difference in our community by volunteering your time to "Make Streeterville Shine"!!
Check-In: 8:30 - 9:00 am
Clean-Up: 9:00 - 12:00 pm
The trolley will meet you back at stops along Lake Shore Drive to pick up your tools and final garbage bags. Please sign-up today by email to greening@soarchicago.org or call the SOAR office at 312.280.2596, ext. 3.
Volunteers are asked to bring gloves and rain gear (if needed).

NATO Summit Essentials for Streeterville, May 2

Chicago (and Streeterville) will officially welcome the world during the May 20-21 NATO Summit. Formed in 1949 as a collective transatlantic security agreement among 12 member nations, NATO has since grown into a 28-member alliance which takes a more active role in the world's political and security operation.
A great deal has gone into the planning of this event to showcase Chicago and our community, and to ensure smooth operation for the residents and visitors alike. This is your opportunity to come learn, in advance of the event, who will be attending, how logistics for the event will work, how you can participate, and more about the summit itself.

Lori Healey, Executive Director of the NATO Host Committee will brief residents on the event. Larry McCracken will then present, exploring the reasons behind NATO and the goals for the May summit. A Q&A will follow.

Streeterville residents who are interested in being considered as a candidate to serve as a director of SOAR's Board of Directors are invited to submit an application to the Nominating Committee.
Since 1975, SOAR, a volunteer-driven organization, has been engaged in working on behalf of Streeterville's residents to preserve, promote and enhance the quality of life and community. Grassroots advocacy helps ensure that public services and private interests incorporate the everyday experience of neighbors. SOAR Board members gain interesting and important insights into how all stakeholders work together to "keep Streeterville a neighborhood." To turn these insights into policy requires participation by residents from every corner of the community (Chicago River to East Lake Shore Drive/Oak Street, and from Rush Street to Lake Michigan) who offer complementary skills and experience.
Interested Streeterville residents are asked to complete an online application and submit copy of a current resume or CV.
SOAR Board members are elected for two (2) year terms at SOAR's annual meeting. Read letter to potential candidates.

 SOAR will be hosting the ever-popular Artisan Market Streeterville this year on Saturday, November 10th and Sunday, November 11th from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm each day. The event will take place at the Robert H. Lurie Medical Research Center of Northwestern University, located at 303 E. Superior St.
We are looking for local artists working in a variety of media to show and sell their work. The committee is now accepting applications for artisans for the event and we would like to invite all talented Streeterville & Chicagoland residents to apply.

Streeterville Development Updates

In February 2012 an application for a change in zoning was filed for this parcel. SOAR & Alderman Reilly hosted a community meeting in late March. Based on feedback of community concerns & suggestions, SOAR requested that the Alderman defer the proposal from the Plan Commission hearing in April. It has been deferred to allow the developer time to address these issues & concerns.
