| G8 & NATO Summits, May 19-21, 2012 | |
 The G8 and NATO summits will be held back to back in Chicago this spring. Chicago is the first American city outside of Washington D.C. to host a NATO summit and is the first city, since London in 1977, to play host to both summits.
To learn more about the plans for the summits and for links to official websites visit SOAR's G8 & NATO webpage. We will use this page to communicate information to SOAR members and Streeterville residents as it becomes available.
SOAR will be hosting an event in early May to provide residents more detailed information. Look for further announcements in upcoming editions of SOAR's News Briefs.

SOAR First Wednesdays Return with Roundtable Discussions

With 2012 now underway SOAR has been hard at work putting together a calendar of programs and events that promise to be unique and exceptional. We are pleased to announce the return of the First Wednesday programs which will focus on topics that are educational, informational or social in nature.
As part of the First Wednesday series, SOAR will incorporate a roundtable discussion where SOAR leadership will stay after the formal presentation for those who are interested to discuss community issues, ideas, etc. We are excited about 2012 and our diverse program offerings and hope that you will join us soon for an upcoming event and roundtable discussion.

Get Involved: New Volunteer Opportunities

By-Laws Review Committee
Sally Park, SOAR Board member, has been asked to form a By-Laws committee to review any needed changes sent her, incorporating into the By-Laws all which already have taken place, and considering those proposed for Board vote. If you have served on a By-Laws Committee and/or have an interest in helping make SOAR governance/operation as professional as possible, please contact Sally Park, SOAR Secretary by Monday, February 20. The first 4 responding will be welcomed as members. Work is to be concluded by April 13, 2012. Finance Committee SOAR is looking for an individual with finance experience to serve on the Finance Committee. Responsibilities would include review of SOAR's assets, making recommendations on investment opportunities, and participation in the planning and budget process. The volunteer position would entail approximately 3 committee meetings per year. If interested, please email SOAR's Treasurer, Irene Newman. Marketing Committee Looking for SOAR members interested in participating in 3-4 meetings of the Marketing Committee whose purpose is to explore and report to the Board SOAR's relevance within the community and propose added elements to keep up with the ever changing demographics. If interested, please contact Bruce Corson, SOAR President. Streeterville Artisan Market Organizing Committee SOAR will once again host the very popular Streeterville Artisan Market in early November 2012 and is looking for talented and motivated volunteers to participate on the steering committee. If you have an interest in joining the committee or you would like to learn more before committing, please contact Rosalie Harris, 2012 Artisan Market Chair.

Streeterville Artisan Market Organizing Committee
SOAR will once again host the very popular Streeterville Artisan Market in early November 2012. If you are interested in volunteering to participate on the steering committee or would like to work day-of, please email the committee at artisans@soarchicago.org.

There are many ways to become active and engaged in SOAR's efforts in Streeterville. Volunteers can contribute through one-time efforts, work on special events or projects, assist in the office, or participate on an ongoing basis with SOAR's task forces and committees. Streeterville residents 18 years or older are invited and encouraged to get involved. For specific volunteer opportunities, please visit SOAR's website. |
