StreeterFest™, August 27 & 28

SOAR is excited about "StreeterFest™", the newest addition to Chicago's world renowned series of outdoor summer music and art festivals. On Saturday and Sunday (August 27th and 28th), Lake Shore Park will host a wide variety of live music, food, drink and fun for family, friends and kids. While there will be a $5 gate admission to the public, SOAR members will receive a complimentary ticket for free admission on the day of choice. Kids 12 and under get in free at all times. Hours are: 11am - 10pm both days.     

 

This new fest will feature a Children's Activity Area. Bring your children or grandchildren and participate in activities like the Potato Sack Race, Parachute Games and Bozo Buckets or explore their creative side with art and craft making projects like Macaroni Necklaces, Mask and Bird Feeder Decorating, Bracelet and Card Making.  Each child will receive a Participation Ribbon.  The Children's Activities will take place each day from 12 noon to 5 pm.

Larry Booth to be Honored at BLUEPRINTs 2011 , September 19

The BLUEPRINTs Gala celebrates the dynamic Chicago neighborhood of Streeterville and honors those who have contributed greatly to our community and our city.  

Larry Booth HeadshotThis year, BLUEPRINTs will honor Laurence O. Booth, of Booth Hansen, a Chicago based architect. Mr. Booth was recently honored by the Society of Architectural Historians for his work on the redevelopment of 850 N. Lake Shore Dr. Among many other projects, he worked on the design and conservation of the Palmolive Building, The Fountain Square Mixed Used Tower which preserved the street level design placing a tower with setback behind it, 30 W. Oak Street which was designated the "Best New Building" of 2006 by Friends of Downtown, and the Plant Conservation Science Center at the Chicago Botanic Garden, which won the Chicago Building Congress 2011 Merit Award for New Construction. He is currently working on the redesign of the Esquire Theatre.

Volunteers are needed for many different jobs and a variety of shift times. StreeterFest™ volunteers will receive free admission, a food and beverage coupon, and a free T-shirt for each shift.  To learn more and sign up, click here.

 

Get Involved!

There are many ways to become active and engaged in SOAR's efforts in Streeterville.  Volunteers can contribute through one-time efforts, work on special events or projects, assist in the office, or participate on an ongoing basis with SOAR's task forces and committees.  Streeterville residents 18 years or older are invited and encouraged to get involved.  For specific volunteer opportunities, please visit SOAR's website.
