SOAR will host its inaugural "StreeterFest™" on Saturday and Sunday, August 27-28 at Lake Shore Park, 808 N. Lake Shore Drive. SOAR members will receive one day free admission. Tickets will be mailed in mid-August. 

This new fest will feature live music and arts & crafts as well as beer, neighborhood food, and a wide variety of wine. Headlining the music stage on Saturday is Beatles tribute band American English. Headlining on Sunday is Dave Matthews tribute band the Trippin' Billies. Other StreeterFest stage acts include Chicago jazz-funksters Liquid Soul, and pop/rockers South of 80.

Hours are: 11am - 10pm both days with a gate admission of $5. All proceeds will benefit SOAR. Kids 12 & younger FREE plus fun kids' stuff from the Chicago Park District!

The Chicago Park District has commissioned a mural by renowned local artist Jeff Zimmermann for the eastern wall of the pedestrian underpass at Oak Street Beach.  The artwork is a dynamic contemporary mural with pop art sensibilities, and features photo-realistic painted elements based on real life people and objects at the beach.  This project is funded by a grant from the US EPA's Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, and is part of a healthy beaches campaign that aims to help beachgoers understand what they can do to help keep Chicago's beaches clean:  Don't feed the birds, and don't litter.   

We invite you to join us for a SOAR Member's Only exclusive event on Wednesday, August 3rd at 5:30 pm at the Oak Street Beach Pedestrian Underpass located at Oak Street & Lake Michigan (1000 N. Lake Shore Dr.) for an unveiling and dedication of Jeff Zimmermann's mural.  Immediately following the dedication, guests are invited to the Oak Street Beach Food + Drink restaurant for a reception sponsored by Levy Restaurant group, in appreciation for the support by the Streeterville and Gold Coast neighborhoods this summer.  Guests will enjoy complimentary hors d'oeuvres and red and white Watermelon Sangria from 6:00 to 7:00 pm.  Representatives from the Chicago Park District and the artist, Jeff Zimmermann will be present to meet SOAR members and discuss this project and wonderful new addition to our community.

Nikola Tesla, the man who discovered the way to bring light to the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893 and to homes around the world today, through alternating current, will be the focus of "The Genius Spark of Nikola Tesla." The exhibit on the life and work of the brilliant Serbian-American physicist, engineer and inventor will be on Chicago's Navy Pier, 600 E. Grand Avenue, from Saturday, August 6 through Sunday, August 28. The exhibit is free and open to the public. Learn More    

On Friday, August 5, the day before the official opening of "The Genius Spark of Nikola Tesla," the Chicago Council on Science and Technology and the Belgrade Committee Chicago Sister Cities International will sponsor a reception, lectures and an exhibit preview for C²ST members and special guests. Get Involved!

There are many ways to become active and engaged in SOAR's efforts in Streeterville.  Volunteers can contribute through one-time efforts, work on special events or projects, assist in the office, or participate on an ongoing basis with SOAR's task forces and committees.  Streeterville residents 18 years or older are invited and encouraged to get involved.  For specific volunteer opportunities, please visit SOAR's website.
